Official Warrior Watch: Draft Pick and Playoff Positioning

Unless the Jazz lost at Minnesota and Memphis. Minny HATES Utah and the chippiness of the last game ensures they'll be battling hard tomorrow night. Memphis may very well be fighting for home court, so no assurance they'll be resting their starters. Both Utah AND the Lakers could very well lose both of their remaining games.
Or LA could pull off a surprise win against SA!
.
Wow! Blake with his best game in ages. Howard steps up and Tony Parker goes 1-10. The refs didn't need to conspire this game; SA managed to lose their 6th straight road game all by themselves.

The Warriors and Houston are now tied in the standings at 45-35. But Golden State lost three of the four meetings against the Rockets, so Houston holds the tie-breaker. So the Warriors now hold the No. 7 seed and Houston the No. 6.

The Warriors still have a shot at the No. 6 seed. They need to win their last two games (Monday vs. San Antonio, Wednesday at Portland) and hope Houston loses one of its last two (Monday at Phoenix, Wednesday at the Lakers).

But it's very likely that SA won't take the GSW game seriously, now that they're now 1 game behind OKC, with OKC playing MIL & SAC in their remaining games. Portland is tanking hard, so they'll lose. Warriors likely winning final 2 games.

HOU has to play PHX and PHX should win this easily as it's tanking hard. If that happens, HOU will likely take Lakers game very seriously, as it'll clinch the #7 spot if it does.

So it'll likely come down to HOU vs LAL game, which is pretty amazing considering it has both the GSW pick relevancy as well as our playoffs hope.

- A HOU wins probably means we'll get #20 pick from GSW. (as well as us potentially being in the playoffs - therefore a #17 pick)

- A LAL wins will probably means GSW gets the better of HOU, we'll get #21 pick from GSW. But it'll also seal our fate and we'll be in the lottery, so a #14 pick for us.

Rep. Good breakdown.

I hate that the Spurs can screw the Jazz on Back to Back days by losing, almost as much as I hate cheering for the Spurs to win.

Also, talk about adding insult to injury. I look at the thread and a banner ad is staring at me covered in Golden State Warriors gear and Steph Curry shirts. "Gear up for the Golden State Warriors 2013 Playoff Run"

Stupid Ads.

Good for the W's, I say. They made some gutsy moves, brought in a hungry coach and now have a better team than Utah. Yes, they should be condemned for purposely losing games last season. It was pretty blatant when they'd be up by double-digits and then proceed to throw the ball away 4-5 times late in the game.

But all they got for that was Barnes. He's not the one that has vaulted them from 7th-worst to a playoff team.

Yes agreed. Sticking with Curry with all his ankle injuries requires guts. In the end they did get him at a real bargain at around $10m per year. In regards to "Tanking" - to their credit they went for it. And they played within the rules while giving Klay some valuable time last year. He has blossomed into a pretty good starter now.

It's important to note though that they were able to make these "gutsy moves" because they are in a pretty good market over there where mistakes are easier to fix financially.

Spurs are sitting Parker, Duncan, Ginobli, Leonard against the GSW. Awesome.

Yep - that's what we predicted would happen. They're a game behind OKC, with OKC playing SAC and MIL at home for their remaining games. No point for SA to try and catch up.

GSW winning both remaining games is a lock ATM.

Well this is unexpected, PHX leading HOU 39-28 at the end 1st Quarter. By beating HOU today, HOU will be out of the race for the 6th spot - hence nothing to play for VS LAL. PHX then gets LAL's pick if LAL is out of the playoffs.

What does this mean for us? If PHX beat HOU, it's likely that LAL will play an under strength HOU team, and potentially kicking the Jazz out of the playoffs.

Hopefully McHale doesn't play it that way. I don't really get resting your players the last game of the season. Build some ****ing momentum into the season and beat a team that is trying to get into the playoffs.

I wouldn't... why risk unnecessary injury when your playoffs spot is already fixed? Just pretend it's your day off.

Called not being a weenie. The chances of an injury are fairly low. The Rockets aren't winning **** in the playoffs playing scared. Come out and get some momentum and knock Goliath (reputation wise) out of the playoffs.

OKC already finished off SAC at home. So SA knew the outcome before their game started (or at least saw that OKC was on its way to an easy win).
GS should get an easy home win and then be able to handle Portland on the road.

Actually if I were a team the West making the playoffs seeded 2-7, I'd do what I can to let the Lakers in. They have a much better chance in knocking off the top seed right now compared to the Jazz. (or making it a competitive bruiser 1st round match up).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but seeding doesn't guarantee home court, correct?
For example, Clippers are guaranteed the 4th seed because they won their division, but if Memphis finishes with a better record, they'd be the 5th seed, but have home court, right?
.
This means Memphis WILL be playing for keeps on Wednesday. LAC, with a likely home win against Portland, play on the road at Sacramento. That's not an automatic win. Memphis won't be resting starters with a legit chance at home court.

Memphis rested their starters tonight. Gasol played 24 minutes, the most of any starter, against Dallas.
