What's new

Salary Cap = $58.679M

Haha! The goal is to spend up to the floor so they can get luxury tax money back, not up to the full cap.
Who cares? If it gets us another future pick I think they would spend the full cap if the deal was expiring. Especially an unprotected pick in next years draft.

Can't combine exceptions with cap space so far as I'm aware. So 4.9 is the most they could offer Mo this year.
The scary part is that so far I have not seen any substantial rumors regarding Mo. So he may eventually get desperate enough to accept that sort of a deal.
.
I hope that Neto comes over and challenges Burke for starting PG and our rotation this year is Burke/Neto or Neto/Burke. I really don't have any interest in a vet PG coming in here right now. These 2 need to battle for the spot and learn to play the NBA game and learn to work with their teammates.

I think franklin's original comment was "tongue-in-cheek." IINM, he's among the small group on this board who thought Lindsey made a big mistake with the GS trade and overpaid for those picks. So suggesting the Jazz pay $10M to acquire another pick was really a backhanded jab at the Jazz FO.

I don't think Neto is coming over. I can see both the pro's and con's of having a vet PG with the team.
1. Burke has struggled in summer league. He's trying to learn the offense AND trying to outplay his counterpart. And that's only going to get exponentially worse in the regular season. Some of these players he's going against in SL won't even make rosters. For the most part, he's not even playing against top backups, let alone NBA starters.
2. Letting Burke play as the backup for a few months lets him learn the offense and hopefully have success against backup-quality PG's before he has to compete against the big boys (and have his lunch handed to him on a regular basis for a while.
3. Having Burke struggle at the point of the attack hurts the development of the other starters. Not advocating for Mo's return (I don't want him back), but having a vet could aid the development of the other starters.
4. Burke and Burks also get to be primary options on the 2nd unit. Burke is the 5th option as a starter.

McNeal had some moments today. He shot terribly but he is also hurt. His steals showed some grit. If Neto stays in Europe I would not be all that displeased with the point manned by Burke, McNeal and Junior Stock. Hey it's tank time!!!!

Birds rights. They can offer him the max if they wanted to.

No, the situation is different when you have 7-8mm in space vs. 31mm. Might as well burn the rest.

The Jazz had to renounce Mo to claim the cap space to make the trade with Golden State. His cap hold was $12.75mm (per shamsports), which is more than the Jazz's remaining cap space by a significant margin.

The difference is that KOC read the site and didn't care, but now Lindsey apparently reads the site and AGREES with us! :-)

I know we joke about this, but Daryl Morey admitted that he had an account on Clutchfans, a few months back

Ahh, thanks. I wasn't around for the trade and couldn't stand slogging through 53 pages of CROBIN TEH IDOIT WILL SCREWZ IT UP PLAY BEEDS OVER KANTNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! inane b.s. to get the details.

Funny that you bring up the haters almost more now than the haters even mention Corbin. There was very little of that in the thread you referenced. Most of us "haters" are resigned to the fact we are stuck with Corbin. Since the draft Corbin has hardly been a topic unless you bring him up.

Not sure that detail has been covered, but the Jazz had to renounce him to claim enough cap space to make the trade (unless I'm missing something).

Can't use cap space to take trades if you don't have the cap space. Holds take up cap space. Don't see how you're missing anything.
