John Lucas III prefers the Jazz & looking like another contract/draft pick trade

I'm not sure why everyone is having such a hard time grasping we're using cap space for picks.

Who's having a hard time grasping that? Pretty much everyone on this site is completely on board with that concept.

The summer league is garbage. Being your team's best player vs their sixth best player are two totally different things. The only people who learned anything about Burkes the last 10 days are Jazz coaches and in practice.

Anyone who refers to any of our players as "Burkes" should be given a swift kick in the rear end.

You just acquire the most assets possible. No telling what opportunities arise in the future.
Exactly!

The impressive thing is that the Jazz ARE willing to spend to the cap and even use their exceptions. They could easily just stop now and add a couple of SL scrubs since they're over the floor. KOC has always been about acquiring assets and Lindsey has the same mindset.

The truly interesting angles:
-This is where the Jazz actually start to spend money on these transactions.
-The Jazz are still trying to make things happen RIGHT NOW and seemingly making calls instead of waiting it out and taking calls. I am not sure I agree with this detail.
-I would hope the Jazz maximize their asset haul with this cap space.

This is what Utah will look to do. When they get the 5th pick, they can then package Kanter and that pick to get Jabari. By having all these other picks, they can toss in another pick as well. That is the homerun they are looking for.

If the Jazz have a top 5 pick in 2014 they should not trade a single palyer on the roster. They should keep the pick. They will get an amazing player anyways. Who knows who will be ther at 5 anyways.

So it sounds like Lucas has a promise from the Jazz. But they want to spend to the cap first, then use their exception to sign him. Good cap management by Lindsey, Rigby and company.

What if they could offer the #5, #20 (from GS) and a future #1 or Burks to get Parker (if he's worthy of the 2nd or 3rd pick)? I'd do it.

Yup

He is a free agent and does not play for anyone. The thing they are talking about is that the rumors say Utah will go after 1 more expiring contract for a pick. Then turn around and sign this Lucas guy for the vet minumum to fill out the PG rotation. 2 different transactions.

Oh.. I misunderstood. I thought it was get a pick with Lucas. I agree with everyone, then.

See above. Also, this was NOT the case just a week ago...

To me it is to early to say. We have to see what happens to all the potential draftees this year and who is there. How close is the seperation between say #3 and #5? It may not be worth all that. What if a player like Randle or Exum are there and they have just torn up college opposition? What is Parker himself is a #5?

Agree. That's why I included a caveat. Right now, most are saying Wiggins and Parker are the two elite "can't-miss" superstars and #3-7 or so will be all-star caliber players.

Burke did not play good in any of the four Summer League games. He is not more than a 15-20 minutes per game backup for this season. Try to bring Neto, too. Play him 10-15 minutes per game. We need a starter that can play 20-25 minutes per game as a starter at the PG position.

1. You can't make any assumptions about **** based on some ****ty summer league games. I'm seriously going to neg the next person who makes a claim like this. And I never neg.

2. Even if Burke does turn out to not be ready for starting PG duties, who gives a ****? This season isn't about winning.

Mother ****ing truth right there, bitches. Round house kicks to the faces of all you haters. PLUS we'll make you read every post Thriller has ever posted, twice. Watch yourselves.

Why don't the Jazz bring in Kevin Kruger as the third guard. He would cost less than Lucas (I think he would have rookie status for CBA purposes) has been a veteran of the DLeague career 12.7 ppg 5.2 assists, .438 FG .408 3 and .860 FT, he is a coach's kid (the old man is currently the head coach at Oklahoma and has been an NBA head coach) and played for the Jazz in the 2009 Orlando Summer League and played Eric Maynor to a statistical dead heat. If we're tanking this guy might be able to show Trey more than others that have been mentioned.

The Jazz already have rights to McNeil if they want, is there that much separation between him and Lucas? Just Saying.

I am not a big fan of John Lucas III. The guy is a chucker and not a very good shot. Well I guess he will help us lose. I'd rather wait to see if certain teams have too many guys at a position to see if they have to cut a good player or they would be willing to trade player certain player who isn't going to play but has potential. Or I would just rather re-sign Tinsley.

I will check out other team rosters to see if there are any hidden gems sitting on the bench.

Only until the details of the picks came out. I think after people learned the details, 98% of the board were happy.

Maybe you're right, but it sure didn't seem that way the first couple days.
^^^^^^^^^^^ First time for everything.
