What's new

Zimmerman/Martin Jury

^^^ I agree, 32% of black males will go to jail once in their life, compared to 17% of hispanic males, and 6% of white males.

It was funny when Rachel (Trayvon's girlfriend) was testifying how Trayvon was yelling "this cracker is following me", there is a double standard. Black people can call white people cracker and nobody blinks, but Paula Deen gets fired for saying the n-word.

Because there is centuries of revolting connotations that are tied with the N-word. Come on man, I hate to be OneBrow here but any idiot should understand the difference between the two.

To me the double-standard comes in their use of the same word. I play ball with a group of african-american folks (well mostly, there are a couple of us crackers there too) every other Saturday, and that word is almost becoming second nature to me. I don't use it, other than in -izzle form to sound cool, yo, but they do CONSTANTLY. Either it gets used or not, but this one way street thing is crap, if you ask me. Frankly I think making such a big deal of the N-word is what makes the N-word such a big deal. Until we can just let it go, and EVERYONE can let it go, it will always be considered a big deal and manufactured "big deals" like that actually hamper the progress of civil rights in America, IMHO.

I'm sad beyond words

not surprised, but sad

why did he have to get out of his car in the first place...
what was he thinking?
he got away with something, I'm just not sure what to call it

He's guilty of bad judgement. Beyond that, we don't know what exactly transpired that ultimately started the altercation that led to Martin's death. Zimmerman told his version of the events which the lead officer and others believed. We will never know Trayvon's side unfortunately. I don't see how you can convict him with the evidence that was available. Again though, I am thinking as one of the jurors. That's why Sirkicky would be a nice addition to this thread.

The evidence for racism in our justice system is there in the conviction rates and harshness of sentences. There is overwhelming statistical evidence for it. The ignorance that is out there is people being unwilling to listen to the evidence that is available.

I don't disagree. Obviously the wealthy and Caucasians are treated more favorably by studies... What does this have to do with this case? Zimmerman is a self described Hispanic male. The media sold this false narrative that he was a white man itching to shoot Trayvon Martin because he was black.

Wow, rep'd. You brought up a great point that I forgot to. The n-word is always used on the court when I play and when black people see eachother and I have seen white kids call other white kids that too.

Yup. It leaves me perplexed that someone can kill a kid who was truly up to no harm, until he tried to stand up for himself when he felt persecuted.

Zimmerman just never passed the eye/test with me. The dude seems like he has something wrong with him.

Well. I wonder how this all unfolds.

I don't agree Dal. We don't have an eyewitness right now who can tell us who threw the first punch or who attacked who. One of the witnesses testified that Martin was on top of Zimmerman and thrust downward with his arms. Zimmerman claims he was slamming his head in the sidewalk. All of this while Zimmerman was asking the witness to help him. The witness went and called the police. As for Zimmerman following Martin, that did happen to a point. Then he supposedly was walking back to his vehicle when Martin came behind him and confronted him.

All in all, there just wasn't enough evidence IMO to convict. That's JMO.

Well said. In a way this is like OJ. Not enough evidence to convict, and really no one knows what happened despite what "everyone" knows happened. It is another one that proves our legal system works, in that in the absence of damning evidence we do not wrongfully imprison someone. It is also one that proves that no legal system is perfect, in that he may have gotten away with murder.

Well, I guess it's high time we get cameras everywhere. Where the hell is the NSA anyway? Someone wake them up and tell them to stop dicking around with listening in on my dirty phone calls with my wife and start video taping everything everyone does.

I would say OJ's case was a little easier to decide. He had one hell of a defense team also. The whole glove thing was a huge mistake by the prosecution. I believe it was said that he stopped taking his arthritis medicine and his hand ballooned up. Could be wrong.

I hate the guy that tweeted this but I agree.

Trayvon was the 1 who's life was being threatened--by a guy w/ a gun chasing after him! Trayvon had the RIGHT 2 do ANYTHING 2 defend himself

It was my understanding that Zimmerman was heading back to his vehicle after trying to determine where Martin went when Martin came up behind him and confronted him.

Good luck living in the south with a bunch of angry blacks. Zimmers is gonna wish he was in prison. Or maybe he will go back to Mexico?

Not sure how trust worry that site is but rioting in Miami.

Rumors (unconfirmed) of rioting in Dallas.

Edit: Took it down as there was some potentially offensive language.

If true, this is pathetic.

Yeah, I too hate it when Americans exercise their first amendment rights. They should just skip over it and use their second. Whoever draws fastest with the biggest gun, wins!

I have no problem with it. Even if there's loitering! They'll have to pay for the damage anyway. Burn the city to the ground. Then pay double in taxes to rebuild it. Ha! That'll show the world how much we care about our country and judicial system!

I don't see anything wrong with them voicing their opinions. I have problems with rioting, looting, and possible violence.

Riots r kool

Furst ammendant

This post brought to you by UGLI baby

You got it! Riots are a great way to meet chicks and rip off free electronics!

Also, before every body gets their panties in a twist, what was the first amendment based on? A bunch of dudes who ran slanderous pamphlets and who tarred and feathered political opponents. Don't like a governor of what someone said? Get a riot together and tar and feather em! Or even better, far and feather him then hang him so the whole town can see his rotting carcass!

Amurika!

We need to get back to these divinely inspired morals and founding traditions.

Constitution!
Ps, what's the primary function of a gun?

Don't agree obviously, but we know jurors make mistakes. See the OJ trial. This was far different, but same bad outcome.

I hope people don't act the fool, and use this as an excuse to destroy stuff. Stay calm people, and respect the process.

We disagree on the verdict, but we certainly agree on the aftermath. I hope people are smart enough not to loot stores or commit acts of violence.
