How Many More Games Will Favors Take Off?

Defense is a lost art in the NBA. We can't score, so we talk about defense. NBA rules don't allow you to play defense. We need someone who can score.

Kinda agree

When Favor's confidence is low he completely deflates. Something will happen early in the game - either he'll make a dumb turnover or miss an easy make or have a bad call made against him it will build up from there. His body language the last two nights was atrocious.

Textbook lack of maturity.

I think it is fatigue as addressed in this thread and this.

If you look at the games he gets it going on offense it's when he gets some early touches that go as hoped. Lots of examples of this. Hope he works through this

Right now, Favors is a defensive big who needs a good offensive night to have any effect on the floor.

If it is fatigue, when he is this young and it is this early in the season, we better dump him ASAP.

I cannot see how it could possibly be physical fatigue. He is too young and too strong, the season is early.

I think it is frustration, largely will lack of whistles in his favor from the refs. Could be frustration with lack of performance, partly brought on by frustration with lack of coaching, or support from coaching? He did not look exactly thrilled to see Ty on the sideline when he came out of the game.

Fatigue is the problem. And don't give me this trash that Enes plays defense, then blame it on Favors for not helping out. Kanter looks as big as a chump on the defensive side as Favors does on the offensive. Not to mention the defensive glass. So how many nights is Kanter going to take off on the defensive glass? How many nights is Kanter going to take defense off? See we can do it with every player on this team. Favors looks exhausted PERIOD. And until these young guys get in better condition, we will see this from time to time with every single one of them. EVEN Kanter. Give these guys a chance to grow.

I think Kanter has been coached to take off on the defensive side, to get back to score, and let Favors get the Defensive rebounds. Kanter used to be on his way to being the best rebounder in the league. Now, he is a great offensive rebounder, but I think Ty has done this on the defensive side to bolster the offense.

I think Favors let the last two games get in his head with the foul trouble early. He looks like the neurotic type who will dwell on his short comings, and let it get to him. I think he was pissed about his defense on Brook Lopez, who is basically ungaurdable, and it got to him. No excuses for Favors, but it is probably something he will MOSTLY grow out of. He is probably always going to have some off games now and then, but even in an off game last night, he did still get 10 points, 14 rebounds and 3 blocks.

There were a few minutes last night right before Ty took him out that I thought he was engaged and playing hard, he had a couple dunks, rebounds, and was kind of leading the charge at the start of the comeback run in the 4th. That is the Favors we need to see for most of the game. Not the sulking one who shoots 25% from the floor, and gets lost on defense.

How is Favors fatigued? This was the 5th game! Kanter didn't play for 6 months, had a bad preseason with coaches riding him, and fans picking him apart, but still he's fought through it and is producing to his skill set and trying to help the team win.

I love and hate Favors. He has so much potential, and can dominate when he decides he isn't going to feel sorry for himself. His sulking isn't going to get him anywhere; he'll just make enemies with the refs doing that. He is his own worst enemy.

Disagree. Look at the conference finalists from last season. Indiana was a game away from the finals with one of the worst offenses in the league. Memphis's offense was also below average. Very good to elite team defense (and team/individual defenders) is necessary for a team to succeed in today's NBA. Favors needs to be the interior anchor of the Jazz's defense; he can't be out there just avoiding fouls and grabbing rebounds.

Are you actually serious with this post?

Part of it is physical fatigue, and most of it is mental.

Remember, most of these guys have never been on a losing team such as this.

Most teams have wings who can help their centers when an opposing player is posting up, by swiping at the ball and putting enormous pressure on them. We know this as it is has typically been the main source of Kanter's turnovers. Our guys just let Favors and Kanter hang out to dry in the paint.

Absolute horse-****. Basketball isn't a contact sport, and officiating it as such has forced teams to be smarter about how to defend. I'm sorry you missed all of last year's playoffs.

like I said in other thread, Richard Jefferson's defense sucks. When Marvin comes back, I see this changing, provided Corbin doesn't try to play him as stretch-4 like DL hinted before ( he can't shoot the 3!). When Marvin comes back, I'd be totally fine with Richard Jefferson getting 0 minutes (split them between Rush and Marvin, with Jeremy playing backup 4).

I see a lot of things changing when Trey , Jeremy, and Marvin come back.

Hoping for lineup of

Trey
Gordon
Marvin
Enes
Derrick

Then there two fouls called against him, and didn't get one on the offensive end and then he quit. Straight up quit. It was 4 on 5 on the defensive end because Favors just stood there while everyone else went to the other end of the floor. Then Corbin took him out.

So...Favors quits after 3 regular season losses? Not a good sign. Gordo and Enes continue to battle (for the most part). Same goes for Burks and Jefferson (even if they can't hit jump shots to save their lives).

I don't think he quit at all. No one in this world quits in the NBA and gets 14 rebounds. He seemed shell shocked to me and looking for a way to express his frustration with the refs (from his perspective) and his inability to do what he wants or should. He then lacked assertiveness--almost a form of basketball paralysis.
