Punch Bowl Re-Filler
I think a better option would be to find a Fisher-type PG (and I'm speaking of the pre-Jazz Fisher). A guy who can handle the ball but is also a deadly shooter. Alec has the foot speed to get by SG's; does he have the same advantage against PG's? And do you take away his legs by making him chase PG's defensively? But then why not just put Alec at PG, put Hayward at SG, and sign a 3&D SF like Ariza? I know Alec failed at PG last year, but we also had Al Jefferson as our first option who is a non pick and roll big.
I believe we have a potential stud SG in Alec. Of the core-5 he may be the best at his true position. And I say that because Favors is really a PF trying to play the 5 because he doesn't have a good enough mid-range game. Gordon is a SF trying to be a SG because he may not be able to defend the 3. Kanter is either a 5 who isn't tough enough inside or a 4 who isn't fast enough to guard other PF's. Burke...who knows? Jury is still out but he sure had a rough rookie year in terms of shooting. So I say keep Alec where his true strength lies. Does he force a trade of someone else at some point? Perhaps. Let the competition force the best to win out.
