2014-15 outlook on Alec Burks: Starter or 6th man?

Should Burks start at the 2-guard

But then why not just put Alec at PG, put Hayward at SG, and sign a 3&D SF like Ariza? I know Alec failed at PG last year, but we also had Al Jefferson as our first option who is a non pick and roll big.
I think a better option would be to find a Fisher-type PG (and I'm speaking of the pre-Jazz Fisher). A guy who can handle the ball but is also a deadly shooter. Alec has the foot speed to get by SG's; does he have the same advantage against PG's? And do you take away his legs by making him chase PG's defensively?

I believe we have a potential stud SG in Alec. Of the core-5 he may be the best at his true position. And I say that because Favors is really a PF trying to play the 5 because he doesn't have a good enough mid-range game. Gordon is a SF trying to be a SG because he may not be able to defend the 3. Kanter is either a 5 who isn't tough enough inside or a 4 who isn't fast enough to guard other PF's. Burke...who knows? Jury is still out but he sure had a rough rookie year in terms of shooting. So I say keep Alec where his true strength lies. Does he force a trade of someone else at some point? Perhaps. Let the competition force the best to win out.

No doubt. That's why I'd like to see him start. He can really put some pressure on opposing defenses and wear them out if he remain close to as efficient as he was the 2nd half of this season. That boy's got some juice in his legs. Can't wait to see what the offseason brings.

Burks can't even operate on the left side of the floor yet since he is incapable of hitting shots within the 3pt line on the left side.

The best argument for why Burks should not be considered one of the top 5-10 scoring two guards in the league is basically....... "because he is alec burks"

You only seem interested in using this stat to prove Alec is the man. I could give context for why it's a poor evaluation of Alec and any number of NBA players, but I think it would get trolled hard.

Wrong. I hardly think he is "the man"
He is not good at all on defense, his bbiq still needs work and he doesn't play enough or take enough shots to be the man.
Im not even sure he is a better player than his teammates (Hayward, kanter, favors)

I just think the stat shows that he is one of the top SCORERS at his position. There is a difference between being a top scorer at his position and being "the man" like LeBron, Durant, harden etc.

Also I cant think of many players who are 22 and coming off the bench who are "the man"

If you frame the stat in this context I think it stands on it's own two feet.

I don't see Alec as having the intangibles that help you win a game (yet), and he's not a guy you can go to like Monta or Kevin Martin (which can drag down TS% in spite of the value that lower percentage adds to the win column based on point percentages available to the offense). That's basically my argument against using pps or TS% without any context.

I like the idea of having Burks start for 2 reasons. First we need a guy that can penetrate and he is the best on our roster at that. Second, I think G-time is a natural 6th man and could be one of the best in the league.

That's a fair assesment

I think he might be able to be a guy you can go to. At this point its mostly just a hunch because the sample size is small due to the opportunities given.

I have seen him seem to improve with more minutes/opportunities though so I have more faith than most I guess.

I have to imagine a post so ridiculous is a troll, but I'll use the comment as an opportunity to give Burks a little love.

Burks ranks 6th among all shooting guards in FG%. And 6th among SGs in PPS. He's the youngest SG in the top 10 on both lists.

Again, I don't think most Jazz fans realize just how lucky they are to have a guy like Burks playing so well, not only at a young age, but very little experience.

Was being totally srs.

I may be a little off, but I'll guarantee I'm closer to being right than any of the "burks could allstar. He Jame Harden" crowd.

Probably.
After all there are a lot more players in the nba that are not on the level of james harden or on an all star level so the odds are definitely in your favor.

Not really going out on a limb to say that you don't think burks will be as good as harden and wont be an all star.

Most people (myself included) would put money on burks not becoming as good as james harden before they would bet on him being that good....... Except I would probably get amazing odds if bet on burks being as good as harden

It's funny how several losing seasons has pushed most posters into this mode of proving their speculations right at all costs. I'm happy that I have so much integrity that no one could ever accuse me of being in this lowly group you now occupy.
