It's his second year.

Prior to that, KOC made BIG moves to acquire young talent after Jerry left. Prior to that he took big gambles on a couple free agents and in the draft, and put together a pretty good team that couldn't quite match up.

Plenty of GMs have started out as strong or stronger than DL, and ended up falling flat on their faces.

Burke and Gobert don't look like stars, and a couple late 1sts from Golden State aren't likely to be that valuable. DL failed to get anything for either Big Al or Millsap. It's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too early to celebrate DL. We should probably wait until he does something that makes the team better.

He was the GM during the 2012/13 season as well. And no, it's not success.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying DL is a bad GM. I'm just saying he really hasn't done anything yet to show that he's a good GM. This offseason should be interesting.

Matthews was let go due to luxury tax concerns: re-signing him would have cost Utah $9M. And a large part of that was caused by the horrible contract of your namesake. As for Paul, DL made that decision this past off-season, not KOC. It was either rebuild or re-sign vets and try for an 8th seed.

Korver...really? The same guy who ADMITTED passing up shots (when the Jazz were counting on him to score) in order to protect his personal record? I want no part of a player who values stats over his team.

He got rid of Corbin. That's an accomplishment in itself considering the history of the Miller organization.
 
If he hires Boylen? Absolutely not. In fact, if he makes such a hire, I'll lose any confidence in his ability to do anything good here.

This tired argument. And KOC FAILED to get anything for Boozer. DL got draft picks for Big Al and Millsap. Make a trade for vets and the team has no salary cap space. What could have those players fetched at the trade deadline? Perhaps a late first and an expiring. Or a late first and a 2-yr contract. DL essentially got that. And he has cap space to sign players and extend contracts. Utah's goal was to get in a good position financially.

And wait to celebrate? I'd say the #4 pick (pending the lottery) is cause for celebration. It's EXACTLY what DL wanted when he made the GS trade. In fact, probably >>>>>> expectations. I'll bet DL expected the Jazz to be in the 30-35 win range and get a pick somewhere between 8-12.

And it was KOC who signed it. At that time it was not horrible deal, lets be honest if they would have let AK go and he would get same deal from any other team Jazz fans would have gone berserk. Lets see if DL will be smarter than that and will sign Hayward to reasonable deal or will let him go if it is stupidly expensive.

Memo was a very good player before the injury. Matthews had a decent, but not great season before he was offered an outrageous, unprecedented deal by Portland. Matthews' contract situation had never before happened in the HISTORY of the NBA. Never before had an undrafted player been offered way more in his 2nd year than the #1 pick in his draft class. You simply can't foresee that. Nor can you foresee a player going down with the horrible injury that happened to Memo. If so, no one in the NBA would be playing on more than a 1-yr contract.

Nope, AK would not have gotten a MAX deal. It was a bad deal before the ink ever dried. All Utah needed to do was let him play out the year and prove he was a MAX player. There was no need to give him Pau Gasol money.
