Are You Believers Now?!!!

And a large part of that was caused by the horrible contract of your namesake. .

And it was KOC who signed it. At that time it was not horrible deal, lets be honest if they would have let AK go and he would get same deal from any other team Jazz fans would have gone berserk. Lets see if DL will be smarter than that and will sign Hayward to reasonable deal or will let him go if it is stupidly expensive.

You know how much Memo extension cost Jazz?
Memo was a very good player before the injury. Matthews had a decent, but not great season before he was offered an outrageous, unprecedented deal by Portland. Matthews' contract situation had never before happened in the HISTORY of the NBA. Never before had an undrafted player been offered way more in his 2nd year than the #1 pick in his draft class. You simply can't foresee that. Nor can you foresee a player going down with the horrible injury that happened to Memo. If so, no one in the NBA would be playing on more than a 1-yr contract.

Nope, AK would not have gotten a MAX deal. It was a bad deal before the ink ever dried. All Utah needed to do was let him play out the year and prove he was a MAX player. There was no need to give him Pau Gasol money.

Hahaha, at the doubters. Int he last 12 months since DL took over he has been absolutely amazing. Yet one more bench mark that you all will set and when he meets it you will set another.

To redo an earlier post of mine in its own thread...

Let's review:

Dennis Lindsey officially took over as the head man last offseason.

He then worked some magic and moved up in the draft and nabbed the Jazz Trey Burke. The man with ice in his veins.

Then he furter made some moves and landed the Jazz the 7-2 Stifle Tower in Rudy Gobert.

Mr. Lindsey wasn't done, not by a long shot. He then saw that what we had was not good but not good enough for that title. So he signed Garret, Lucas, Thomas, Tinsley, Clark...to ensure the tank and a top pick for the loaded draft in 2014.

But he knew that all good teams need to keep options open for years to come. So he went out and facilitated a trade with Denver and GS that enabled the Jazz to land 2 1st rounders and a couple 2nd rounders for expiring contracts that leave the Jazz room to move in free agency.

Then he sat the very nice coach Corbin down and told him how this season would go. Player development and defense, defense, defense.

Corbin made some improvement on the players but was dead last in defense. So the great DL sat the nice coach Corbin down and thanked him for his service and saw him to the door. Along with his coaching staff.

In the middle of all that DL came down from his offices on high and threw in some interview on the recent locker clean out day. Then he showed Jazz Nation that he is indeed in charge of this boat. By comments about freeing Kanter for 3s, laying to rest the Kanter/Favors dilemma, and getting real with the players that he means business and that they are his heralds. Perform or he will find those that will.

So Jazzfans I ask you, Do you believe in DL now?!

Spycam he is waiting for your tender embrace.

dude, i really hope you realize the difference between healthy optimism and light-mindedness in combination with naivety

Why 6.2 mil a year is outrageous? I would rather have Matthews at this price than whatever 10+ mil Hayward will command.

Matthews was let go due to luxury tax concerns: re-signing him would have cost Utah $9M. And a large part of that was caused by the horrible contract of your namesake. As for Paul, DL made that decision this past off-season, not KOC. It was either rebuild or re-sign vets and try for an 8th seed.

Korver...really? The same guy who ADMITTED passing up shots (when the Jazz were counting on him to score) in order to protect his personal record? I want no part of a player who values stats over his team.

Ouch!!!!

Guess you missed all the subtle phrasing in my post that conveyed a light mood.

But that's ok. I hope you know the difference between cautiousness and depressing pessimism.

I've liked him from day one, I've believed in him from the beginning. After he let all of the vets go, I knew exactly what DL was doing. I'm not at all shocked at all what has happened.

I'll ding the FO collectively (not sure who had complete say) for holding onto Corbin for one year too many and letting Hornacek get away.

All things considered, I think the collapse of the old roster and overall rebuilding efforts are coming along nicely.

You are on the right path to enlightenment.

He was brought in and told to learn the ropes the year we first missed the playoffs. Not on him. Neither is Corbin. The players he drafted where rookies this year. Lindsey has spent the last year (since he took over) laying a foundation for this team to reach the upper echelon of the NBA. he is doing in his first year what everyone else in charge of the Jazz failed to do so for the last 5.

That is what we are celebrating.

I like most everything DL has done and the fact that he isn't willing to accept being average instead he has a blue print to build a real contender. He still has work to do but people shouldn't just discount what he has already done. The biggest decision was to FINALLY start rebuilding. He was the first to call it that and then make tough decisions to do so despite the obvious growing pains.

That is my biggest like about him. He see's the real goal, is not willing to settle for less and will do the dirty work.

KOC would not have re-signed Corbin to another contract either. No GM would have. The Jazz loyalty is a real thing, but it isn't that loyal.

DL is still just selling hope at this point. It's the current GM blueprint to a sustained career. Until that translates into playoff victories, I'm not really impressed.

Tearing it down is the easy part. Lots of GMs can do it. Now comes the hard part.

My evauation of Lindsey will be a three year evaluation at least.

Which team would you rather own/run/root for:

Team A kept Hornacek, we missed the playoffs, end up with the 13th pick (a potential starter).

Team B let Horny go, got the #1 pick, added a potential superstar.

It sucks to let Horny go, but if Utah ends up with a top 3 pick, letting Horny go was the right move.
