What's new

***Official Ping Pong Day Thread - Tuesday - May 20th - 8 PM ET - ESPN***

lol at this nugget from Simmons under the Boston's section

They competed just about every night for Brad Stevens, blowing close game after close game because they didn’t have a crunch-time guy

Simmons writing about the Celtics is like Jazzfanz posters writing about the Jazz. LOL.

We can do no worse than #7.

Jabari, Wiggins, Exum, Embiid, Randle, Vonleh, Gordon.

Any of them would have a legit shot at becoming the best player on this team, and the guy that makes us a perennial playoff team again. But it's unlikely that there is someone in this draft who could be the best player on a championship team. Wiggins and a healthy Embiid could be legit superstars. I don't see one guy standing out in the other five guys.

Basically i'm saying that Wiggins would be amazing to get. But otherwise just be happy that no matter what, we are getting a talented guy who could become really good. And don't be expecting us to be drafting the 2017 finals MVP.

Moving from #4 to #7 wouldn't be such a bad thing really. Who is fourth on your board? Who's seventh? Is there a huge difference?

My board, assuming everyone is healthy:

Embiid. You can't beat a big. Duncan, Shaq, Kareem, Hakeem. If you have an elite big, you have titles.
Wiggins
Parker
Exum (I don't know why, just everyone else says he should be here)
Smart - I put him over the other bigs, because we need some nasty. His size and strength and athleticism is unheard of at the PG spot. He will be much better than he is getting credit for.

This is extremely debatable. I could easily say that bigs in todays NBA don't matter at all. Heat have won the last two without one. Howard couldn't win a playoff series. etc.

The 4 players you mentioned are all top 20 all time. Is that what Embiid would need to be?

I've been sending hardcore good vibes all day. Figured this would be an appropriate time to end my lurking in order to get a karma bump for the Jazz.
The envelopes are unveiled at 6pm MDT, right? So, most likely, our draft order has already been determined by the ping-pong balls now...

IF Embiid's ceiling is Hakeem, then he is top 20 all time. And in this NBA, where there isn't Malone, Barkley, Shaq, etc and the "best" big out there is....Howard?...Embiid would dominate (if he is Hakeem). He would be Jordan level domination.

I agree that bigs are irrelevant in the league today, but I'd argue that it's because there aren't any Hall of Fame level bigs in the NBA today.

So, you put Hakeem in today's NBA...unstoppable.

I agree.

But how likely is it that he ever makes it to his ceiling?

Eh. That's why I take Wiggins #1 after strongly, strongly, strongly considering Parker.

It's not even a debate. If we win tonight then whoever is representing the Jazz should just announce to the world that we are drafting Wiggins.
