What's new

Chad Ford on ESPN 700 with Keith Stubbs today (6/11/14)

One of our reporters (I forgot which one) tweeted a couple of the GM's considered Exum more of a two than a one. It's Exum that says he's a one.

If Exum is available at 5 and the Jazz don't draft him, I'll have lost some faith in Lindsey. And I don't love Exum. The Jazz need to do everything possible to position themselves to get one of the consensus top-3. I don't see any team trading down for any other player in this draft.

So if you don't see any team trading down, how do the Jazz position themselves for a consensus top-3 (Wiggins, Parker, Embiid)?
By many accounts, including Lindsey, Exum isn't in that top tier.

I don't think he is either, but I also don't think that teams in the top-3 love Parker but will draft him because they know someone will come calling and they still may get the guy they wanted more and sweeteners on top of it. So you grab the guy that they might actually like more and talk. Exum may build ground to discuss something like what happened last year with Minnesota (from what I understand, the Jazz acquired Burke through having a deal already in place where Minnesota picked Burke then traded down for #14 and #21). If Philly gets Parker and isn't in love with him? If Orlando is just head-over-heels about Smart or Vonleh? THE TABLE IS SET.

Yeah it probably is. In a 50 game season. Can you tell us your thoughts on exum?

nah in 50 game season that group is worth 20 wins.
Can you tell me your thoughts on Tzikitishvili? Yi? Milicic? Vesely? Byombo?... same applies to Exum.

Look at the NBA Finals, we have Boris Diaw and Rachad Lewis playing the PF.. those guys shoot 3's on the regular and Favors will have a tough time chasing them down.

The classic response is that Favors dominate the boards to neutralize their advantage.

If we get a better player than Favors to play PF, we can move Favors to center. Otherwise, we are drafting someone to play Favor's preferred spot, ticking off the best player on our team in the process. How sure are we about Vonleh?

dumb statement i know. so is your statement.

no one knows what exums career will be like. he might suck, he might be great, or he might be average

Though Parker and Ginobili played professionally in Europe before they entered the NBA.

Exum's situation is closer to Giannis Antetokounmpo's. Giannis was even more of an unknown. Exum is has shown some basketball skills in real games. He is a huge risk. But Giannis is turning into a steal. That might still in GM's minds around the league.

You didn't tell us your thoughts on exum. And every single one of the players you named were guys that were drafted because they were big guys perceived to have skill. Exum is a guard who is supposedly lightning quick with a decent shot. The comparisons are not even at all alike.

Again, tell us why you don't like exum. And when you tell us why you don't like exum, tell us what is crappy about Derrick rose, Westbrook, mcw, penny hardaway, young Kobe, and any other tall, quick combo guard.
