Couldn't that be a bit of an exaggeration on your part? I mean, I don't know how your dreams work, but I don't usually wake up sweating because an athlete was paid more than I thought he should be. Seriously, listen to Locke's podcast from this morning. Even if the Jazz matched a max offer, there's very little chance it negatively affects the team. A max he signs this year becomes a more reasonable contract as the cap increases. Why should we care if the Millers spend more as long as it doesn't hurt the team.

Unlike Hayward, parsons is a legit offensive weapon and 3 pt shooter. Teams actually have to defend him.
The slight edge Hayward has in length and defense is minimal and doesn't even come close to Parson's offense. My goodness people, did you even watch the playoffs? You can't win if you can't make 3 pt shots.
The mere fact that there's debate whether Hayward is a better player than ariza and parsons just shows how outrageous the max deal rumors are. None of then are even close to max players.
Karl Malone and John Stockton are Rollin in their graves at the thought of Hayward being a max player. My oh my how our standards have changed (and stupidly skyrocketed).

Sure some here claim this. But some here are clearly blinded when it comes to Hayward. You put Parsons or Ariza on our team in the same situation INSTEAD of Hayward last year, what kind of numbers to they put up? More points? I don't know, maybe. More rebounds, assists, blocks? I don't see it.

Not necessarily. The early projections has the cap increasing by less than 5% between 14/15 and 15/16. max raises for signing other teams' free agents are 4.5% of the first year salary. If the growth in the cap slows or stays around 5%, the yearly salary relative to the cap doesn't decrease much over the 4 years. I haven't listened to Locke (I will now), but how much is he projecting the cap to increase over the next 4 seasons?

We'll have to wait and see, I guess. I would assume that the revenue from that contract won't affect the cap until after the 16/17 season (which will be the first under the new TV contract IIRC). Gordo will be 3 years into his new contract, when the Jazz will have already re-upped Burks and Kanter and will be looking to re-up Burke.
Perhaps Locke's primary argument is that Gordo's new contract will be movable no matter what. I have a hard time believing a team will give up good assets for Gordo at $15-17mm if he continues to play at the level he played this past season. If Exum, Burke or Burks prove to be more effective on-ball players, and Gordo doesn't find his jumpshot, his contract will keep the Jazz from doing anything before 2018.
Second, he argues that the Jazz won't be any good so it doesn't matter. Awesome. If this is what the FO is selling, I'm finding a new team.
Third, he makes the argument that there's nothing else that can be done with the money. That's more than a little myopic IMO. We're already 3 seasons into the new CBA. The Jazz were able to land 2 1st round draft picks for cap space just a year ago. Who knows what will come available in the next couple seasons?
Finally, he makes the argument that the Jazz should keep him because they drafted him. Idiotic.
