I am going out on a limb and putting maybe a couple together into a theme.

Letting good players go for cap space.

I liked Matthews, Maynor, Korver, and even Brewer. I do not think they are the best players ever but Maynor would be a better backup to D Will than any we have now and Matthews would definitely be better at wing. I understand the decision, but I don't have to think it was a good one. Of them all the Brewer one made the most sense, as in our offense the wing has to be able to knock down the 15-20 footer with reliability. But I think the other 2 hurt us more than helped with cap relief.

This one sided topic sucks. Not keeping Boozer is the answer.

Miraculously KOC was able to recover from Boozer fiasco by getting AJ. Granted AJ is not producing the same as Booz, but he is not too far off, can get better (even Booz's first year was not that great in Utah) and he can play C, unlike Booz, thus allowing Millsap to start and play alongside him effectively. So, while Booz may be a better PF than AJ, because AJ can playe C, with Millsap on the team, team may actually be better off. Again, we needed a miracle to get AJ, but since we did get him eventually, and we could not have gotten him with Booz on the roster, I just don't think loss of Boozer hurt us. Loss of Wes sure did though. It is painful to watch the guy light it up in Portland, when we could have had him do the same here and Bell can't even replace what he did as a rookie. KOC surely screwed this one up badly.

I think from the added poll it is obvious what reignman thinks the biggest mistake was. It's ok I just didn't vote since I don't agree with any of those as the BIGGEST mistake. It was a mistake but one among others.

The Jazz didn't match because they were going after Jefferson. They are intertwined.

I just can't express in word how disappointed I was that KOC didn't reach a deal with Mathews.. beyond expression!!

Also can anyone tell me why we couldn't sign an extension with him last season when he was playing red-hot???????

Huh, the prevailing attitude around here when Portland offered the contract was "nice player, but no way in hell KOC should match. Bye Bye Wes." I know that was my attitude at the time.

Now it's "How dare you KOC for not matching this contract!!!"

Portland made a gamble and it's paying off for them now. That's how the NBA works. We'd be laughing at Portland if Wes was sucking it up there.

Here's the thread if anyone feels like reading it. Not many people were arguing that they should have paid Wes $7 mil a year. Although some did make the point that KOC should have offered the MLE at first or a smaller contract to get him before he got other offers. Maybe Wes would have accepted, but financially he was smart to see what was out there. It may have earned him 20 million more dollars or so.

I don't know about the extension, but after a certain point in the season the teams aren't allowed to sign contracts with players for the next season until after July 1. Here is what Locke said in response to this tweet:

"@lockedonsports Wes wld have signed with the Jazz if KOC swallowed his pride"

Locke's reply: "@jazzutefan6807 Wesley agent blew off KOC in Orlo and wouldn't let the Jazz talk until the offer came in -- ask when they knew of offer?"

Matthew's agent would not talk to the Jazz. Portland faxed an offer sheet at midnight as soon as teams were allowed to contact teams. If WM really wanted to stay then he would have contacted the Jazz prior to signing the up-front loaded offer sheet and worked out a similar mid-level deal with less up front. But he didn't. WM must have known the Jazz couldn't afford $9MM+ for him this season.

I don;t liek the choices for this thread i say getting rid of all our shooting guards that can only get better. My favorite jazz player brewer we got rid of... So that's what i hate the most. Matthews boozer korver left on there own. We just got rid of brewer. He was a loyal player to us

Wasting the Knick pick. But who knows how it will turn out.

How's that?

Hayward's free throw percentage is better than Miles', his three point percentage blows his away, and his overall field goal percentage is just behind. Add in the fact that he's a better passer and rebounder, and that he seems like a late bloomer whose body will fill out nicely over the next couple years, and we could have a gem here. Two games have skewed his percentages sure but I think they're a better indicator of who he is then some random minutes here or there early in the season when his confidence was probably less than it is now. In short, his game is well rounded and it's obvious he tries hard.

Yeah, I guess I just expected more. Like I said, who knows. He could be a good player, but as of now, you're lying to yourself if you think he's played otherwise. (And mainly for the fact he doesn't play.)
