Alec Burks not following the Quin Synder system

I'm super excited about this new system. But, I see some flaws like in the redundance of the big guys out catching on the three point line just to pass it off again. I dont know how another team doesnt pick up on this. Next I hear that one of the wrinkles of the offense is the ball handler attacks at the 45. Well, Rigby was on 1280 and he mentioned the Burks was playing outside of the system.

This worries me in two ways. First is the system to strict that it doesn't allow for creativity
And second what Alec was doing was working so wouldnt wouldn't a bright coach adapt to what is working?

They did actually. Blazers backcourt defenders started reaching into passing lanes on that big man passes the Jazz did all the time. This play became too predictable during the game, but I hope it is for some ingame practice for this entirely new team using the good of the preseason. This play had another bad side to it, the bigman pass went out too fast that it did not gave time to the opposition to move and try to reach the ball movement, so it really did not have any important effect on the offense. Looked like an extra ineffective pass. Except for the part that QS is a man of p&r and the bigman went to set the screen after that pass but the freed shooters need to get more consistent on their off the dribble shots because this was used a lot during the game and it looks like it will be in the regularity.

Alec Burks looked simply amazing on iso moves. But he looked even more careless than he ever was before in his career. This is a perk of him that has ups and downs to his game. Upside is he can think and react very quickly in offense and defense. He just doesn't care one bit if he makes a mistake or not. This is something very fitting to Hayward. But he looked really out of the system called "obvious unselfishness", so I think QS needs to set him straight about being a part of what's going on more. He is really talented, it's his contract year so he will feel the pressure to show what he has in his sleeve, so being the young talent he is, the coach can assist him in acknowledging the importance of playing the set plays better and that it will help his value rise up. Scouts don't just look at the ESPN stats before trading for a player Alec.

Just listened to the interview. I think Rigby is (once again) out of line for singling out and talking about how he thinks Burks "went rogue".

There's no need for this kind of talk by Rigby when he isn't even the coach and doesn't know what Quin told Burks to do out there on the court. This is something Quin should address - not Rigby.

BTW - Lindsey would never have said things like this. He'll simply respond "That's something that you'll have to ask Coach Quin about, it's not really my place to comment".

Lindsey talks about player performance all the time.....

I thought Burks did go a little bit rogue, more so in the 2nd half. Seemed like he was playing outside the team, more about individual performance. He has incredible talent but the way he careens into traffic has me worried that he going to end up with a serious injury, or injuring one of his teammates inadvertently.

Would love to see him worry about himself less and focus on getting the bigs some easy shots,

FWIW, Alec had 4 turnovers in that first game when he was passing to a teammate, and not trying to score.

I didnt think Burks was selfish and i thought he played within the offense for the most part. He just needs to make better passes (not neccessarily more passes)

You may be right but so far alec has been the healthiest player of any of the core guys

Do people really listen to Rigby and think he has actual insight into the game? Wow. When I hear him talk I always wonder if he has compromising photos of Gail or something. It's the only sort of reason I can imagine he is able to keep his job. I'm not saying there is nothing to these particular comments. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Love how you believe you know Lindsey well enough you would have known what he would of said. Enough to even quote him. It like you are......well...just amazing.

Rigby is a moran. Also, while Burks played one of the worst floor games I've ever seen from him, he simply has never been turnover prone in his career. An earlier poster said Burks doesn't care if he turns it over - again, I'll take a sample size of 3 seasons of taking care of the ball over 2 preseason.games.

I'm not worried about Burks turnovers.

Burks did go 1 on 3 at least two times times, and it didn't end well. He simply has to pick his spots better. No reason to exaggerate it and say "he can't play in the system".

That's been very useful for the Jazz so far to set up v cuts by the ball handlers. It's pretty common so I don't get what you mean by "I dont know how another team doesnt pick up on this."

I saw Burks getting to the line a lot. I'm pretty sure Coach has given him the green light to use his best talent when the shot clock gets under something like 14 seconds.
