Burks will get a lot of minutes no matter what this season, there is just no one else to take minutes from him. Hood can only handle so many minutes as a rookie.
[preparing to duck].....
I would trade Burks.
I do not think he fits a share the ball system.
[still ducking...]
UK product Enes Kanter
Offensive rebounded well, ran the court well, played good on the offensive end down low, stayed between his man and the hoop. What did Kanter do well in that time. (as I feel well versed, after reading the thread, on the negative side of things)
Burks has a unique skill set. It's been readily apparent since day 1. While obviously there is something to be said for playing within the system, if a coach doesn't take advantage of that unique skill set by working it into the system then I see that as a failing of the coach and not Burks.
Sincerely,
Alec Burks' agent.
All this talk of Burks playing within the system or not is much ado about nothing, IMO. It seems obvious, based on PT, that Snyder doesn't have a problem with Burks, seems to want the ball in his hands at certain points in games and with certain lineups, and hasn't expressed even a hint of frustration or disappointment publicly about him.

"One of those Jekyll & Hyde things... I thought there was a number of guys who played very well the first half when the ball moved, and [in the second half] when people started doing too much on their own you run the risk of that happening".
Way too small a sample size. Besides, this was Burks' first game back and we were without Burke.
I don't think we've seen the "starters" yet. Kanter doesn't look like the guy. It should probably be Burke/Burks/Hayward/Booker/Favors.
Yeah. I'm starting to lean that way as well. I hope Kanter gets there, but he should probably start out off the bench. Favors, Booker, Hayward, Burks and Burke to start with Gobert, Kanter, Hood, and Exum getting the lion's share of the backup minutes. Then mix and match as needed.
With that said, I really hope that QS tries all sorts of different lineups this year (both starting and off the bench) to see what works and what doesn't. Try Exum and Burke out there together. Favors and Kanter. Have Gobert and Favors play some together too. Go big with Gobert, Favors, Hood, Hayward and Exum. I want to see Favors at the 4/5, Hayward at the 2/3/4 and Exum at the 1/2. Mix and match to create advantages based on personnel instead of just trotting out the same starting group night in and night out. Play a smarter brand of basketball and see how the players all respond to that.
I'm not saying that the criticism of Burks is unwarranted, but this was a late pre-season game where the coach deliberately emptied the dregs of the bench in lieu of the better players and played rotations that never, ever (hopefully, unless we have a nightmare run of injuries) would exist in a regular season game. Let's not give up on Burks so quick. Burks didn't play well within the offense, but this is a really tough game to seriously evaluate. The Jazz went out of their way to lose tonight. It'll be interesting to see how Burks is gelling a couple months into the season.
