So I was thinking today.... since Muslims believe that Mohammed was last prophet send to us by God and Mormons believe that Joseph Smith was a prophet as well - seems like there is major conflict of beliefs. Both can't be right here - correct? If Muslims are right than Mormons are wrong and J. Smith is a fraud. If Mormons are right than Muslims are wrong and Mohammed is a fraud. I have my point of view on the subject but would love to hear what involved sides think about it?

Well yes, obviously. The bigger conflict, however, in my opinion is that Mormons believe that Jesus is our savior and the Son of God (as do all Christians) whereas Muslims believe that Jesus was just another prophet.

Some Muslims believe that Jesus will come back just before the Armageddon. Maybe Joseph Smith was the one and we've missed his point.

I've actually been curious why Muslim beliefs are so similar to LDS beliefs. If you get past the Prophet Vs Prophet stuff, the fact that they are both founded by a Prophet makes them all the more similar.

here's my opinion - there's room for differences of opinions...

As long as you don't feel that your religious beliefs force you to proselytize, I think most people can accept that others may believe something different than themselves.

Also, I may be wrong in this, but I don't really think that most Muslims feel that Mohammad "founded" their religion in the sense that it was his goal to start a new religion - I think they see him as an "additional" prophet in the Judeo-Christian tradition. Like Judaism and Christianity, Islam as a religion was not really "founded" by an individual at a particular point in time but evolved over time as "followers" began to adhere to certain principles as expressed by various prophets (and others)

My very limited knowledge of the LDS faith is that it is rather different in this regard in that Joseph Smith had the intent to begin a new religion with his prophecies.

Maybe they are both wrong? I believe in Flying Spaghetti Monster and the first rule of Flying Spaghetti Monster is you don't talk about Flying Spaghetti Monster. Wait, that's wrong. First rule is there can only be one true Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Unpossible. One of them got to be right. So which one is it? Am I getting brand new virgins when I go to heaven? Or am I stuck with my own family? Am I going to be punished for eating pork? Or is God more concerned with my coffee habit? We must settle this quickly and conclusively for the sake of all of our souls.

This question seems odd to me. This is the case most religions. If fill in the blank religion is right than Mormons are wrong or the other way around. Not all but most churches claim to be correct and the others wrong. I guess if you compare within different sects of same religions there is some wiggle room but not much.

You're just realizing all of this?

Probably one of the worst threads of this new year so far.

I don't think that's the view of most religions, including the Mormons. I believe the LDS Church claims they have the fullness of the gospel of Christ. That doesn't mean everyone else is wrong; it means, in their view, other religions are incomplete in terms of either their teachings or the ordinances they perform.

Think of it this way: I know beyond a shadow of a doubt the Jazz are the only true NBA team. But others may be right to varying degrees, like the Hawks, Suns, etc. Then you have evil incarnate: the Los Angeles Lakers.

Mormons believe in the Bible, which teaches that God is infallible. They believe the Bible is God's Word. They also believe that the Bible is not sufficient, that God made a mistake and had Joseph Smith write the BoM. It's a little contradictory.

It's more like they believe the Bible isn't the whole story.
