Oscar Nominations

'Twould be a toss-up between Pan's Labyrinth and Borat for me. Those were my favorites of 2006.
I liked Punanny's Labia and Whorecats

In all seriousness, Borat should have maybe been up. It's a great, great movie.

I'm meh on Pan. Children of Men on the other hand is a powerful freakin' masterpiece. I love that movie.
Agreed. Pan was interesting and had the two dynamics going on which kept my attention..... but when it was over I was glad.

Children of men was great...... and it would be a really good book too. I wonder if the movie was based off a book

I regard Children of Men as somewhat comically heavy handed. They literally have a character they have to protect named Key. I'm also not a real fan of the desaturated color palette utilized by the film (not to beat a dead horse, but Snowpiercer is actually instructive on how to use the same palette correctly).

I put Children of Men in there because I recognize that it would obviously be in the discussion from today's perspective, not because it's a film I particularly enjoy.

I haven't seen Snowpiercer but oof.

Looking at a list of the top 200 grossing movies from 2006, https://www.boxofficemojo.com/yearly/chart/?yr=2006, the only ones I've actually seen were:

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Night at the Museum
Cars
X-Men: The Last Stand
The Da Vinci Code
Superman Returns
Casino Royale
The Pursuit of Happyness
The Devil Wears Prada
Nacho Libre
Monster House
V for Vendetta
The Prestige
Nanny McPhee
The Illusionist
Pan's Labyrinth
Akeelah and the Bee
For Your Consideration

Of that list my Best Picture nominees would have to be (in no particular order):

1. Night at the Museum
2. The Pursuit of Happyness
3. The Prestige
4. Akeelah and the Bee
5. The Illusionist (I think; it's been so long I don't exactly remember it... but I think I was impressed at the time)

I'm pretty sure it's not going to be a surprise if I tell you that none of those films are remotely in contention against the full field.
