Burks for Fultz?

As of this post, I am fully convinced you are carolinajazz. Nice to see you, Phillip Morrison.
Lol. That was the first time I had the same thought.

I think it's a no for both sides. If Philly hypothetically does this to clear salary to sign someone, then take that same perspective for us. Is having Fultz better than not being able to sign someone? I'm willing to bet some other team would value him enough to give a pick or something.

If Philly is willing to trade him for just an expiring wouldn't that tell you how broke his brain is? And if his brain is that broke you really want him?

I'm legit asking... have there been any cases where professional athletes got complete over the yips? I can't think of any... hell charles barkley still can't swing a golf club. Dude needs therapy, not a shooting coach. The brain is harder to fix on this type of stuff. It's a no for me. If I was a team like Phoenix or Orlando I'd do it and remove a ton of pressure... have him work with a therapist... go from there. For us he'd be a huge distraction imo.

yeah let's get rid of an expiring contract for someone who can shoot it and is well-liked by everyone on the coaching staff and team for Markelle Fultz who forgot how to free throw and has been mentally destroyed.

I agree. I think this comes down to a 3rd team:

Philly gets Burks and some sort of draft considerations
3rd Team gets Fultz
Utah gets a player and some sort of draft considerations

They would not. They could get down to 6 guaranteed contracts with 28 million in space left.

Once again Cy, I'm not making this up. I sent out numerous links the other day. Here is another:

https://sixerswire.usatoday.com/2018/11/10/sixers-jimmy-butler-trade-markelle-fultz-future/

“Including the $30.7M Jimmy Butler free agent hold, Philadelphia will have roughly $21M in cap space for 2019-20. The room includes renouncing all free agents except for Butler and TJ McConnell. The 76ers would be close to adding another max slot if they find a home for former first overall pick Markelle Fultz.”

Idiots!!

He basically said the same thing I did, just with a cooler head, I have my own issues, which is why I know Fultz is a bust where ever he goes. @UB and @infection, do you really want another thee jazz fan on the jazz? I’d ruin that team, and so would Fultz

Why on Earth would Philly even want Burks? They'd rather have Kyle Korver or a Wayne Ellington type. Burks isnt a good shooter. He's a guy who has been shooting well for 13 games. He isn't the off-ball catch and shoot threat the Sixers need.

And I don't see the upside of trading Burks for draft considerations (likely a single 2nd round pick) and a player (likely worse than Burks and possibly not expiring).

You make valid points.

In my opinion, Korver is the target but they don't have to trade to get him. Philly knows, just like with Belinelli and Ilyasova last year, that the Cavs will more than likely just buy out Korver. That way, Philly gets Korver for free. Korver is a terrible defender anyway so you don't give up an asset for him when he might just fall in their lap. There isn't a strong market for Korver.

Burks is a scorer and Philly has such a weak bench. Their depth is really, really bad. If Fultz isn't going to help them this year AND will get in the way of a big offseason acquisition, Philly might trade Fultz for any player who can help now but not hurt the summer finances. I think they can do better than Burks, but then again, they might not.

Chuck Knoblach(sp?) was a really good defensive 2B, and at a certain point in his career got the yips and just couldn't throw the ball accurately from 2nd to first. Iirc, he retired never having overcome it.

But i agree, I'm beginning to doubt Fultz ever figures it out.

And I'm telling you that they are wrong. They arent accounting for the minimum roster charges. 7 guaranteed contracts = 5 open roster spots. Minimum roster charge is 888,888. 888,888 * 5 = $4,444,444

I even waived McConnell and their upcoming 1st round pick.

That came to my mind... I think when the brain goes it is just harder to figure out. I had a friend that had a mental break down when he was 20... he’s functional and happy but he’s never been the same.

It is really unfortunate but they might do well to cut their losses or just move the guy to the G League for playing time.
