What's new

Sources: Bobby Portis significantly interested in Utah

He's restricted people...it ain't going to happen.
There is absolutely ZERO chance Dennis would waive Favors in order to make an offer to a restricted FA. And Portis is different, but not better than Derrick. WAS will be keeping Portis and negotiating a lower per year deal with Jabari, but for more years.
I think it's still possible for the Jazz to find a third team in the Conley deal that's interested in a Rubio S&T.

Jazz would retain the full MLE, and be able to use Favors and/or Exum in trades.

That's the path to getting Harris (S&T) and Portis/Mirotic (MLE).

Not likely, but possible.

I can't even remember when the last sign and trade deal was done in the NBA.

Is it? Could you layout the scenario because I don’t see how.

CP3 was before the new collective bargaining agreement I think. But yeah Gallo was probably the last one... In like 2017? Just seems awfully hard to pull off.
Yeah, with the new CBA they removed most of the incentives to do it.

First, it's impossible to get Tony to say anything about potential players and scenarios. If he's saying something, he knows something. If you follow him, you know how he operates. He hates putting names out there and refuses to do so.

Second, anyone still uttering the words 'Jabari Parker'... did you want to sign Jimmer, too? He's never happening here. Ever.
Jabari's offense is trash, too. Dude is selfish AF.

The Jazz are never going to sign a guy who made the comments Parker made about defense.

Nah.

Jabari is coming to Utah. Ive been speaking it into existence for a while now.

The stars are aligning. You cant deny it.

Tobias = too expensive
Portis = restricted
Favors = not going anywhere
Jabari = FA = stock has dropped, scoring machine, has family and a home in Utah. Gonna get his rebirth here.

Everyone else =not coming/we have no assets or money.

Jabari is a scoring machine and Quin will find a way to make him reach his potential. Ya'll gonna be eating your words real soon.

Put your bibs on. Get ready.

Portis is one of the players I wanted to draft and he fell pretty good in the draft from where he was projected. I would love to have him on the team. He'd be a great fit as long as he doesn't try and punch anyone in the face.

I assume this would have to work as a massive multi-team trade where Rubio’s salary in the S&T would count as outgoing salary which would allow them to take back higher numbers.

Getting Harris while retaining the full MLE would be the most wildly awesome scenario.

By the way, Rubio is a really ****ing good basketball player who just didn’t fit with our roster.

(There’s a lesson here.)

No he isn't. A PG that can't shoot, can't finish at the rim, can't throw a job pass, turns the ball over at bad times, is bad on defense, and not athletic isn't really ****ing good at basketball.

Rubio is a bad fit with our team. He also isn't very good so it's not worth making adjustments to make him fit.

Harsh. If Ricky could hit a 3 at a decent clip (ie better than I could do) I'd overlook his other deficiencies, however if he fell out of a boat he wouldn't ****ing hit water.

If he could hit 3s and finish at the rim. I would overlook the other stuff and he would be an above average starting PG. But he can't do those so I'll point out that he has other issues as well.

Favors can't shoot the 3 and can't create on his own, but I'll over look that since he is an elite defender, finishes really well, is an elite roll man in the pick and roll, an excellent rebounder, and a solid mid range jump shooter. All great attributes of a big man. Plus I believe in him extending his range to 3 more than Rubio.

If Rubio was playing with a scoring, shooting PF, he wouldn't have looked as bad. That's not a knock against Favors. I would rather have Favors and a good PG than Rubio and a good PF. The roster just didn't do Rubio many favors......
