What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

If we can get Mirotic for the right price, we could then focus on adding depth. I think we have the talent and good enough starters. We just need to focus on depth. Especially when it comes playoff time, we need to have guys that can take over so DM, Rudy and Conley can rest.

I wouldn’t get rid of favors for anything less than Mirotic. Even though I would only make the move for mirotic if it saves us money to potentially get more depth. Olynyk is a good backup, but I don’t think he’s a starter. Especially in the west!

I'll be happy with trading Favs (I think its completely reasonable that Boston or Sacramento will give space and seconds for him) and signing either Lamb and one other free agent or Niko and one other free agent. Lamb prolly only makes sense if you save enough to get JaMychal Green or another solid stretch big really cheap.

I'm guessing we can have Niko if we want him... I hope for the sake of the board that we sign him because @infection may lose his **** if he signs cheap somewhere else.

I’d take Elfrid Payton over Caruso. Try and sign Elfrid, also go after Mirotic. Then see if we could get involved with Miami and Philly, more specifically try and get Winslow from the heat if Butler is trying to go there. I’m not all that familiar with numbers, but I think that would be a possibility if it was worked right.

Elfrid Payton is soooo bad. Caruso is a three point sniper and slightly bigger than Payton and just as athletic. Payton has no shooting and all of the downsides of Exum with not as much upside. If we are keeping Exum, we have no need of Payton who is a poor man's Exum.

I think Favors is clearly a better overall player than Mirotic but Mirotic would be a way better fit next to Rudy. I also really love the thought of having 4 shooters in our starting lineup.
Agreed. Especially since I think we can get Mirotic for cheaper, and get him locked in (none of the Favors homers want to bring up that Favors can just walk next year after all of this).

When the Jazz drop below the tax level on Jul 1 (or possibly Jun 30, I forget the date this year), which they must do in order to do the Conley trade as it has been announced, they immediately lose the Burks exception. It is not a thing the Jazz can use.

Well, that sucks. I would probably still offer half the room exception to Caruso though, unless we have a min contract SG in mind.

I would offer Caruso a 4 year deal around 4-5M... which is waaaayyyy more than he'd get... I just think his floor is a solid minute filling guard and he might be more than that. I think he could be an awesome value... if not a basic NBA playable NBA guard costs that much.

I just don't see how he isn't an NBA player.

You aren't getting Mirotic for much cheaper than Favors though. Someone will likely give him a 1 year $15 million if they strike out this year. I wouldn't do that, but someone will.

If you waived Favs you could offer like 4/50 for Niko and still have a 4-5M to throw at Caruso. Hardly ever see more than one or two years on guys like that but I'd go 4/16-20 without hesitation.

Right but the guy has been traded each of the last two years... 13-14M on a multiyear deal takes the cake imo.

I think he's yours at that price. I agree with you that he is worth that. I just wonder what we do for PF depth at that point. I'm not entirely comfortable just rolling with Georges.

Why would he when he could lock in years, IF he even gets that? Furthermore, IF you paid Mirotic $15 million, that STILL gets the Jazz another $2 million which counts when you are cap-strapped.

Niang and Royce can play there some... I also think there will be a guy like Anthony Tolliver or Jonas Jerebko that will be available for the minimum.

Niang is playable there as a backup... if there are injuries it becomes an issue.

Like I have said, I'm OK with Mirotic replacing Favors OR Crowder. I'm scared as Hell with him replacing Favors AND Crowder.

No, I think that's the WORST he gets. I actually believe someone, the Knicks for instance, gives him a Favors contract. Being a free agent next year isn't a bad deal as there isn't as much competition. Also, Niko just strikes me as a guy that might get too comfortable on a multi-year deal. Favors is the Devil I know.

I think Niang still has upside, I just enjoy the Favors security blanket so, so much. . .
