The official "let's impeach Trump" thread

Easy test on whether this would be against the emoluments clause:

Would Trump defenders be defending the Clintons if they owned properties and were steering taxpayer dollars to their properties in the way the Trumps are?

A simple “Yes” or “No” would suffice.

I read @JazzyFresh's posts and watch Fox News when I'm on the road for work and, I gotta say, are we at the point where the only Conservative response to all of this is just to sneer at anyone else who gives a ****?
Judging by who started this thread, another Conservative response is to call for Trump's impeachment. :)

No.

But since we just want to be biased and play sides, then defending Trump is necessary.

thats because you’re a conservative.

those trolling us here and on Fox are either republicans or grifters, they’re not conservatives. The devolution Tucker Carlson is exhibit A of this. He used to be libertarian, then became establishment republican, and is now hosting white nationalist hour. If the country swings left he’ll become a Bernie Sanders socialist if it means another million dollar contract.

the short answer to this is “Yes.”

the long answer is, what is the history and psychology behind political parties and movements where elements of empathy, intellectualism, and rule of constitutional law are rejected in favor of authoritarianism? Why do so many Americans prefer mocking those who give a damn? What is the future of our democracy when 30-40 percent of the country have sold the farm for this toxic cult that rejects the notion of a shared common set of facts and reality? How do democracies survive when such a significant portion of their population reject truth?

There's kind of an interesting throughline with the "deplorables" thing. Because that obviously made a certain segment of the Trump Train identify with Trump more.

One of the Zizek books talks about a tendency in "rightist ideology" (not specifically Republican) to offer weakness or guilt as the identifying characteristic that causes people to align themselves with the leader of the party. As a result, when people point out the moral or temperamental flaw it actually is counter productive - it only makes people feel like the problematic figure is MORE like them and therefore more sympathetic.

For the Nazi party, the best example is Hitler's outbursts of rage - and specifically impotent rage. Those public performances were something that people recognized in themselves, and were therefore not disqualifying.

The other memorable example was Austrian politics in the 1980's, in which Kurt Waldheim pointedly refused to grapple with his past work as a Nazi intelligence officer.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurt_Waldheim

Political opponents tried to use this against him. But so much of the country had its own history of complicity with Nazi occupation that it was essentially a facet of the civil society that the country would never have an honest reckoning with its social and political history. A significant percentage of the populace could not, existentially, bring themselves to disqualify Waldheim because that would imply they had to do a reckoning of their own.

I see a lot of parallels with how race, gender, and white supremacy works in America and the appeal of Trump among those who voluntarily took on the "deplorable" label. A victory for Trump is a ratification of the idea that there will never be a reckoning. The appeal is personal and Trump is a symbolic object that people over-identify with. Everything else doesn't matter.

Remember that one time I called Democrats a cult?

Wait that was Thriller about 20 minutes ago talking about Trump supporters.
Trump supporters, not Republicans.

I call the people who supported David koresh a cult.

Here's a thread full of examples of politicians who went to prison for what Trump is trying to do with the G7 meeting.

The ONLY reason Trump may get away with it is because he's President, and we're in a place in our country where we treat presidents like they are kings.

A little quid pro quo can land you in prison.

The crazy thing to me is that people aren't even mad at or don't even talk about, one of his policies that are effecting us all daily. As a manager in a major retail store every Friday I print out pages upon pages of price changes. People don't seem to realize that at least my average customer is paying a good 20+ dollars more per visit. At least.

Today I printed one out that has been the same price since 2009. Today it went up $5. This is a very household item.

This is the type of stuff Democrats should be using as ammo not shady whistleblowers who won't even testify.
