Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

Its hilarious to me that in a West this wide open the Lakers are going to sit on their hands because they can't get a star for their picks.

If you trade Conley, you're not cursed to start Collin Sexton for the end of eternity lol.

I really don't see what the big deal is with starting Sexton for the rest of the season, especially when the record isn't particularly important anyways.

What if Sexton started and was really good… *gasp* we can’t have that he has to be the 6th man.

The human dynamic is real here imo. Imagine getting a promotion at work you really want and then 6 months later you are pushed back to your old position... you might be okay with that I guess but it is a concern.

If you are good at the job they’re not pushing you back down. If you aren’t good then you have to have at least some understanding.

Getting NAW inked on a 4yr deal should definitely be a priority but I think odds are he takes the qualifying offer if we offer it or if we don't he is gone for sure. There is no way that he doesn't have a sour taste already with the way Hardy has treated him and it doesn't look like that is going to change. You can't blame him either. He plays really well and gets benched for no reason. Luckily he seems to be a great teammate or probably would have already asked to be traded since this is his contract year.
thats a pretty good point there. $7M QO would be accepted before 3/12 or 4/20 most likely.

The bigger problem is trying to shoehorn a 23yr old player with tons of talent into a specific role at such a young age. We all saw when Conley went down and Sexton stepped in as the starting pg he played really well. That should have opened some people's eyes a little bit to how he can grow as a player. Worst case scenario he goes back to being a 6th man but has a little bit more experience breaking down the defense to set up his teammates rather than just looking to score. Best case scenario you have a damn good starting pg. As far as I'm concerned it is a win win.

Because if the goal is for him to be this super 6th man type, you want him growing into that role and accepting it. If you give him the starter reigns only to take them away, that could be problematic.

You're acting like Sexton getting the chance to start is introducing him to a crack cocaine addiction that he will never recover from.

Sexton started 10 games and he played well. The starters played way better as a unit than they did with Conley. I'm not the biggest Sexton believer, but it's not a bad idea to invest into him. Who knows, maybe he becomes a more well rounded playmaker alongside better players. I think that if you were to name something wrong with Sexton's development, it's been that he's spent too much time being the only option. If anything, not allowing him to play with other good players only reinforces his bad habits.

I think Collin is a good kid. He started his entire career until he got to Jazz, haven't heard a peak about his role being reduced. I'd be really shocked if starting suddenly changes his ego where he refuses to go back to the bench. And are we really not going to trade Mike Conley because we are afraid of Sexton turning into a Machiavellian egomaniac?

There are some teams that should consider their package but won’t.
I just don't understand the plan. Like if they got Derozan are they winning the title? They honestly should prefer a multi-piece trade like we could offer or SA or Indiana. Rob seems to think its Bradley Beal, Dame Lillard or GTFO and I find it hilarious. They should honestly look to acquire some non-expiring salary for Westbrook if their plan is to trade the picks later.

This made me LOL.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but we don't have to extend him the qualifying offer. The only punishment to that is that he becomes unrestricted....but even if he's unrestricted it will be hard for him to find a better deal because he will have to find a cap space team or be in bi-annual exception territory.

I think that Lauri's play has moved our timeline WAY up. Kessler balling it up hasn't hurt that either. Why fail for 3 years waiting for a Lauri when you have one already and when you can pair him with Kessler now? Cashing in some picks to get a young 2nd star now would make plenty of sense. We would still have plenty of pieces to build from. If you have the assett available that you want to pair with Lauri, then do it.

Also, this one goes out to the contrarian awareness club. I blocked the all holy Saint Cy years ago. It has been great. I just happened to open jazzfanz up without logging in and read a few posts. Made me chuckle that people still tune in to that J'zz talk. Thanks JazzFanz for the mute button. Best thing since trading Super Max Gobert for 7 years control Gobert Jr + 4 picks + Beasley + Vando + essentially THT. I smile every Jazz game watching Kessler kill it. Finally, someone needs to give MAJOR props to Alex Jensen for his work with Gobert and now Kessler.

Yeah....but how horrifying would it be if he proves to be a starting level player and we have a starting level player as our 6th man?

I've never been the biggest Sexton fan, and for the most part I think he is who he is. He is a solid 6th man type who provides a scoring punch. But he's only just turned 24 and he may not be a finished product. I don't see issue with giving him that chance to develop, in fact, I think it's something we should prioritize with the remainder of the season. He played well for 10 games and so did the rest of the team with him, lets see if he can do it for another 32 games to better know what we have.

What has he shown to deserve a 4 year extension lol

I'm fine with it... think I even said its a win-win type scenario. I think its also okay to acknowledge there is some relationship risk here. Not that he turns into a monster but that he's not happy if it makes more sense for him to be a bench player. That risk could be there either way though as he may want his shot and not giving it to him could lead to a strained relationship. I just think there are personalities to manage here.

I think you kind of have to give him the job on a full-time basis for a while if you want to see if he can handle it.
