I couldn't find the 2026 draft watch thread, but this is relevant here as well:

Talking about -26 draft, highlights and possible Lauri trade rn...

There's a "Lauri clone" brewing up in Finland - so if Lauri will be traded you can just pick up this dude and hold onto us Finnish followers. He's rn 209cm and 17 years. Many same traits that Lauri has, but I think he might become a bit better defender.

Marc Stein seems to believe the trade talk between us and the Warriors is still alive. It seems obvious both sides are playing chicken with Podz and some of the draft capital. We want it all, they are only willing to give one or the other.

It will be interesting to see how this unfolds. The offer as it stands is already on a legitimate level for and expiring Lauri, so if Warriors dont panic and pay the full price then DA will show his hand one way or another.

Warriors seem desperate They want to win a couple of more rings for Curry
They just may take Ainge's offer They don't seem to be pursuing anyone else

The issue is though is they'll need at least assurances from Lauri's camp that he won't bolt, otherwise they won't pay Ainge's price.

He's a pretty good rim protector as it is.

I saw some of his highlights from the peach league as well. He looks really good. 2026 draft might be very deep as well.

I don't think that's the problem. The problem is if the Warriors get Lauri, they need to pull off some other moves. It should be a buyer's market with a lot of teams trying to tank. Warriors have to figure out what they can do with what's left after a Lauri trade and see how creative they can get with multi team trades

The problem is they need to keep Podz cuz Kuminga and Lauri getting extensions blows the budget unless they can offload Wiggins. Moody likely gets a raise next year too if he remains after the trade. Whatever we take will likely leave them with just enough assets to do a minor addition but nothing earth shattering. They are walking a tight rope trying to be a contender without bankrupting their future and also being budget conscious. They got to decide which factors are most important.

I think this will end up getting done pretty close to August 6th. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Kuminga + Moody + 3 firsts + 2 swaps or something like that.

Their concessions would be holding onto their 2025 and 2031 swaps plus Podz but we get Kuminga and everything else.

No Podz, no deal. I say that as one of the more pro-fair-trade voices in this conversation. Losing him and having to pay Kuminga makes them worse in the short and long term, and that’s important value to the picks. I think Podz + Lauri is a fine base to build upon with solid vet signings. You can’t trade 7-foot Klay without good odds you can come away with a player of similar quality and those picks get hurt in a serious way if Podz stays, IMO.

Swap Podz for Kuminga and Moody and you have my final offer I posted last week.

If we are hell bent on a two year tank I can see some middle ground. I do think they would likely involve a third team that takes Kuminga and gives a first for it... and that would be part of the reason to settle. Kuminga is just a contractual conundrum right now. No way I'd extend him right now unless he was like $20M a year and based on reporting that's like 50% too low.

One thing about trading for Kuminga, it is possible he is actually really good and he takes a substantial 4th year leap and you are kind of too good to really tank tank and end up in a similar 6-10 range still

I don’t understand this. What are the buyers buying in this supposed buyer’s market? The market for stars is one: pay out the *** to get Lauri Markkanen or don’t. Nobody wants Ingram or Lavine and there aren’t any other awesome talents/fits sitting on the dock. Unless you think Jerami Grant or Jarrett Allen is a star in the same realm as Lauri, I don’t think this applies.

Furthermore: “a lot of teams trying to tank”? Who? I count Washington and Brooklyn as the only teams where we know that. Utah is trying to get there but they’re not there yet. Portland probably. Chicago basically (but not technically, probably, importantly). Toronto mayyybe? Is 5/30 teams a lot? Who are those teams putting on the market that puts a team like the Warriors in the top tier?

Lmao. There’s no way I do this. Danny wouldn’t either. I’m not even interested in even discussing this. Only way I’d do anything with GS Is if we are getting Podz, Kuminga, and all the picks and swaps. It’s the only way it makes sense to trade Markkanen. GS can kid my ***!!

Any quality role player who exist on teams who dont want to win. Those trades might not happen now, but at the deadline? Yeesh. You might be able to get some bargains.

The point is, Golden State could still have pathways to add quality players to their roster after they get Lauri if they are able to navigate the market correctly.

I don’t think he’s that guy. I think he’s a dude that helps a mid team, but he’s not a floor-raiser (he’s not a ball handler and doesn’t use a bunch of possessions) and not much of a ceiling raiser (he’s not a glue guy) either.

I'm beginning to think some folks are vastly overestimating Lauri's worth w/o an extension.

So yeah, looking like he's not getting dealt before next draft.

I understand some of the question marks about Kuminga and wouldn't mind if we sent him elsewhere for more draft compensation....but I also feel like the Jazz would be an ideal situation to give Kuminga a chance at stardom. The chances of Kuminga being really good are far greater than a random pick IMO. So much of our roster is on rookie contracts and will be going forward. I would like to maintain a way to keep the 31 swap (maybe replace other picks), but this is a good deal imo.

If Kuminga ends up too good and ruins our tank....oh how horrible that would be. We can't be so afraid of the Kuminga anti-tank that we sit pat with Lauri. If we're really that afraid, we can probably send him elsewhere but I am open to the idea of having him and giving him a chance. Lauri f'ed up our tank, but I do not regret getting him. Let Kuminga play for his next contract and see how it goes. Even if he ends up walking I think I'd come away with that saying we took a good shot. Draft picks miss all the time, it should be acceptable to take on some risk with actual players.

Even if he takes a substantial leap I don't think the team around him would be good enough to fall out of the top 5. I love the potential of our young guys but they will be super inconsistent which will work in our favor. We get to enjoy the excitement of seeing the upside but it's followed by the growing pains that keep us in that bottom 5.
