Does Lauri Get Traded?

Does Lauri Get Dealt Before The Season Starts?

The Lakers being "similar" means they are still pretty bad. Anthony Davis and Lebron were incredibly healthy last season. Lebron is a year older and will be coming off Team USA. They only had a +.6 point differential last year w/ Davis playing 76 games and Lebron playing 71. Lakers should be aggressively trying to add someone to avoid an embarrassing collapse this year

Uncomfortable conversation, but if Davis/Lebron dont play at least 60 games, Utah (with Lauri) is probably a better team on paper even with the Lakers having no incentive to lose.
... You think we could get the '25 Lakers pick from New Orleans for Kessler? Maybe you're the wrong person to ask, lol.

No, I think unprotected 25 picks from mediocre teams are untouchable unless we are giving the Pelicans a package that makes them a championship favorite.

I was perusing the Vegas SL player stats and Tay Henny, Bazely and Lofton were pretty brutal. If those three are in the rotation and don't improve the Jazz will be luck to win one out of ten games.

One thing about trading for Kuminga, it is possible he is actually really good and he takes a substantial 4th year leap and you are kind of too good to really tank tank and end up in a similar 6-10 range still
Yeah, let's be real here. No matter who we might bring back in any possible Lauri trade, there's going to be a lot of anxiety here about whether we're still too good to tank "properly." And panic if we have a 3-game winning streak near the beginning of the year.

It is odd that the Lakers have done basically nothing. They might miss the play in.
I think they end up doing something. They have to? It's insane to think they may get a top 5 pick and have to give it to NOLA.

Like can they really afford to not package DLo and some picks for some sort of upgrade?

I guess it's kind of hard to upgrade from DLo because he is a pretty good regular season player, but you know he's going to be awful if you ever make the playoffs.

Yeah that's the thing with DLO....for all of his shortcomings in the playoffs, he's a good RS player and helps them a lot. I actually think he's underrated for his production, or maybe he's really just that annoying that no one wants him. They got 76, 71, 76, and 82 games from Davis, LeBron, Russell, and Reaves last year respectively so it's not like they had bad health. Prince also played 78 games for them. They've got to do something.....anything or they will just get passed up MEM, HOU, SAS. They're in a really bad spot unless Redick proves to be the next Pat Reily.

They did whiff on Klay/Derozan/Murray, but I'm kind of surprised they're not even mentioned in the LaVine/Ingram discussions. LeBron is going to be 40 years old. Certainly he's not going to out as the a perennial 12th seed so they can keep draft picks 7 years from now. I think Sexton would be great for them and he is a clutch client.

But we all think we can tank with Markkanen but for some reason if we have Kuminga instead of Markkanen and he takes a leap, we can’t tank? Lol

Lavine makes no sense while having both DLo and Reeves. You cant get assets for DLo on an expiring, so it's kind of out of the question to get LaVine.

Ingram would be a good option, but why would NOLA want any of the players they could offer? The Lakers salary matches are complete meh at best, (Rui/Vincent/Vanderbilt at a combined 38 million).

Lavine would only be coming in if DLO is being sent out. I'm not actually sure if Lavine wins you more games during the RS due to his health issues....but in theory is a good fit with LeBron.

NOLA would consider it because Lakers can put good picks on the table. Ingram's cost doesn't seem very high atm.

A thing with Kuminga too, you can't sit a guy trying to earn himself a max contract if he isn't legitimately injured.
If we got him the last thing I'd be worried about is him taking a leap and ruining a tank. It would have to be a massive leap and he'd likely have proved to be worth the max... so you could shut him down on the promise of taking care of him in the offseason.

Kuminga is a wildcard, he would see a significant usage uptick in a Jazz uni. That could lead us to tankers paradise or lead us to the next Lauri. Both are great outcomes for us.
Might put up good fake numbers while piloting the tank and earn a contract that outsizes his true production. Still a win and hopefully we dig in because he is RFA.

Again, I'm not saying a Kuminga leap would ruin the tank, but it could keep you out of the bottom 4/5.

That would still be a great outcome if we ended up 6th/7th because Kuminga was essentially 85% of what Lauri is/was.

If we can remove one vet I think our minutes would essentially be 50/50 between developing 1st and 2nd years players and functional NBA players and I think we'd be pretty rough. If we removed Lauri I think we are firmly in pole position with the Wiz/Nets for worst team in the league. If Kuminga takes you from that group to the next tier then I have no issue paying him and having him. I think its very unlikely of course.

My concern with Kuminga would be that he's being overvalued in the trade....but that does not seem to be the case.

I'm just not worried about the other stuff too much. On some level we have to have faith in the FO to make the correct follow up decisions going forward. Let him test the market, even if it results in him walking....it's not tragic. You have to have some confidence in DA's ability to make the right decision about not overpaying and DA's ability to leverage something out a situation where Kuminga does receive a big offer from another team.

I have hope there... I don't have a ton of faith though. Not that I completely distrust them. There is a reason Kuminga is a bit of a conundrum right now on the market. I think teams are seeing lately that the RFA on these guys is not something to be terrified of... so let them get there and don't be afraid to dig in. But there are always a few surprises that make you wonder how professionals didn't read the landscape correctly.
