Hardy isn’t the guy for this job. It isn’t working

Hardy’s defensive coaching skill is 10/10 on the worry scale for me. We talk endlessly as to whether or not he plays the crappy vets or the crappy young guys, but the real issue is that he sucks as a defensive coach. If we can give him credit for his great offensive system and success we have to be as reasonable about the defensive end.

And no, defense is not about “motivating” guys to play hard.

Defense, especially in the NBA, is very much about motivation- much more than offense. Everyone wants to play well offensively- its where you get paid, and how you get pub. Defense is for those who want to win and are willing to wear themselves out to do so. That is very much motivation, and why you often see less physically gifted players still excel at it- again, look at the Nets- suddenly a defensive juggernaut. Its 100% the coaching and motivating players to implement that coaching with effort.

More than offense? Sure. But defense is skill, talent, strategy, and ability just like offense. The idea of motivating your way to a good defense is fantasy. Defense is abled to be played by less physically gifted players because defense requires high level thinking, and that becomes more true by the day. The ability to quickly make decisions is a skill on both ends.

PS: The idea of offense getting you paid is totally antiquated.

Hardy didn't turn Lauri into the MIP and he's not doing it for Keyonte either. Stop it.

Hey dumbnuts - just wanted to let you know that Lowe has a 30 minute conversation with Keyonte on his latest pod, a majority of which is spent talking about how close he is with Hardy.

Here’s a quote:
“Will has made me into the player I want to be. Into the player I am today.”

While I know it’s commonplace for you to be proven wrong, it’s seldom this sudden and direct.

The gap between your basketball knowledge and how you perceive your basketball knowledge is a gulf. Little Bitch Gulf we can call it.

Can't believe Hardy has successfully gaslit Keyonte into thinking he coached him

That’s great Keyonte said that and all, but Hardy is still statistically the worst defensive coach in the history of the nba right now. (Look it up, it’s true.)

But hey, at least he’s finally playing other young guys more minutes and letting them develop after management gave him a stern talking to. That is a big positive.

I’m not saying Keyonte is a perfect player. I’m saying that Tremendous Upside was wrong. Again.

I’ll pay attention to defensive rank starting next season, but won’t be concerned until 27-28 trade deadline. If you find it informative now, by all means proceed, but I don’t think it’s a telling metric currently.

I mean, it's not fireable yet, but man, this is the worst three year defensive stretch in NBA history.

It's pretty ****ing alarming.

Are you going to have good defenses while tanking and playing Brice Sensabaugh and Kyle Filipowski? No, but come on, 30th every single year???

My man, I don't even remember posting in this thread. I'm just here because I got a notification. What was I wrong about again...? There's so many people mad at me all the time that it gets confusing.

I've got my doubts on Hardy; serious ones.
That said, I think I'm gonna wait to spell any harsh judgement until someone get him some decent D personnel.
Dude's playing games with Kevin and the Kyles at center, and Taylor/Cody certainly are not leading us to any good defensive stat.
I guess Walker/Ace are our 2 best D prospects... and one of them is in street clothes with just one shoulder available...

I start judging Hardy (and everyone else) next season.

Tanking means losing so I reserve judgement for basically the entire team/roster until we are actually trying to win
