Omnibus Gordon Hayward Thread (To clean up the Board some)

*7 – The Jazz need to not improve for a while. The draft is their best shot at bringing in contender talent. A very tradeable contract like Hayward and draft picks is their second best. Might as well maximize the trading latitude if it’s not toxic, and this one is not.

Even without the alleged tradekicker, Hayward is instantly untradeable the moment he signs that deal.

What I find fascinating is this: Hayward struggled badly while playing under the comparitively light pressure of trying to earn a bigger contract. Now he's supposed to flourish under the pressure of justifying a MAX deal? This has disaster written all over it.

Case to pay Jeremy Evans a Max Contract:

He has a higher "per" than Hayward
He is more athletic than Hayward
He averages more Rebounds per 48m than Hayward
He averages more Steals per 48m than Hayward
He averages more Block Shots per 48m than Hayward
He has less turnovers per 48m than Hayward
He has a lot higher shooting percentage than Hayward
He is more consistent than Hayward
He has progressively got better and has earned more minutes per game
Hayward has Progressively got worse and earned more minutes per game

Lets not look at any of the negatives. This is my case why Jeremy Evans should be a max player...lol

1) He has been in the league 4 years and his shooting percentage has gotten worse each and every year.
2) Usually after big contracts like this, the player comes in and performs poorly
3) Thinks he is a point guard at times and hogs possession's that should be in Trey Burkes or Dante Exum's hands.
4) We have other players capable of making the 3 pt shots, he has been inconsistent and only shot 30% from three last year
5) Makes it harder to resign Burks and Kanter if they have good years
6) Is in good position for rebounds because he trails the offensive player he is guarding on the perimeter
7) His replacement should make up for some of the rebounds.
8) It's too much money for a guy that just isn't worth it

One Word: OVERATED
And if the Jazz match: OVERPAID

You forgot a few:
9) he is a slow starter. Every season we have to wait for him to get going 2 months into the season.
10) he is not clutch. the few times we have made it to the playoffs or are in contention for the playoffs GH falls apart.

Wow I just remembered that... Gordon Hayward was horrible in the playoffs. I think the Jazz knew how the market was going to be. If they thought he was a max player they would have maxed him out by now. Jazz will let him walk.

MODS: Please consolidate Hayward threads; This is awful

There are WAY too many "Hayward is signing a max deal" / "Should the Jazz match?" threads. Can the mods please find a way to consolidate these threads down to 1, 2, or 3 threads and then delete this post? Thank you.

No
The gist of it (i think) was that its no big deal to max hayward..... since its no big deal, we might as well max burks, kanter, evans, and max marvin while we are at it

Exactly, deals like this don't occur within a vacuum - you overpay Hayward and you just increased Burks and Kanter's asking price. Do we just overpay them too because it's economically viable?

9) Once you sign him you can't trade him because it includes a no trade clause.
10) He is not clutch, when we need him most he disappears.
11) He is a slow starter, every season he starts out slow.

1) Given
2) Sometimes, not always
3) They used him as a point forward alot and the coaches ran the offense thru him. Take this one up with Corbin
4) We have shooters? We drafted Hood and jsut traded for Novak. Burke shot 33% from 3 and Burks shot 35%. Exum is not known for his outside shot.
5) Given
6) Sometimes yeah. He also gets rebounds because he is always moving and often chases down fast breaks. At one point (and possibly ended the year that way) he had traveled the most distance by any player in the NBA that year.
7) Lol, maybe...depend son who we are able to get if they let Hayward go.
8) Agreed. 15.75 is to much
9) Link?
10) Not clutch but claiming he disappears is overblown
11) Agreed

Over rated is an over reaction. Not worth 15.75 but a good player that will shine next to a star.

This is really the only concern. The max contract vs. real fair value is just an exercise in silliness.

This year Gordon Hayward will make more than Steph Curry, Dirk, Tony Parker, DeMarcus Cousins, Harden, John Wall, Rondo, Joakim, & Duncan

LOL THIS HORNETS TRAIN WRECK. LET HIM GO THE GUY IS A TRASH CAN.

he got over inflated stats on a terrrrrrible team.

he is a brick machine!

he might be our train wreck....and we'll be the laughing stocks

Trade Kicker doesn't matter, because you would never be able to trade him anyway with that contract.
Its not really that hard to find guys that can shoot over 30% for three, its all about what have you done for me lately. I think even Trey in his first year shot over 30%

Id like to add;

- There are still serviceable wing players on the market.

- The 2015 draft's strengths are SF and C. (are the Jazz going to make the playoffs with Hayward anyway?)

- Rodney Hood by some miracle fell to 23. Hes more polished than most of this years rookies, and will be able to contribute offensively from day 1. I think if the Jazz were forced to give hood near 30 minutes he could safely produce 12-13ppg, TBH.

12) Has no leadership skills
13) Worse body language in the league
14) Players like JJ Barera and Delonte West know they can bully him and he will fold like a house of cards.
15) Will sulk when he ultimately gets booed for being overpaid
16) We aren't going to win any ways in the next couple of years, what difference does Gordon really make
17) My TV color will need to be adjusted when I don't have to compensate for his ultra white skin color
18) Olive Garden and Subway will survive in this market without him...barely
19) This could be the longest five years of my life...(

I like so much of what Hayward does on the court but the bottom line to me is that if he doesn't have a consistent shot then we need to let him go for that kind of money. When it's crunch time in the playoffs you have to be able to sink the shots.

The way I look at it is that Hayward had his chance as the number 1 option to prove to everyone why he is a max player(failed). I think we should now make Burks our number 1 option and see if he can earn a max contract. If you give Hayward the max after a bad season then it doesn't matter what Burks and Kanter does, they will both want max contracts too. Can't give everyone a Max deal
