Omnibus Gordon Hayward Thread (To clean up the Board some)

The Utah media has gone into a frenzy using all these points as an excuse to match. Might as well change the title to "Will the Gordon Hayward Experiment Please End" and sticky this as the official grumble pit for the next three years, at which time Hayward will be packaged with the GSW 1st and our own for another superstar.

Problem is now the reports are that there is a kicker in the agreement.

This post is a good explanation of why I think the Jazz should probably match.

That said, I think there is a case for not matching, yet to be made. I'm far too lazy to make a good post about this (and to be honest I'm not smart enough to figure this all out), but you have to look at the Jazz' likely future contract negotiations, draft picks and cap space...and how it would look like with and without a hayward max deal on the books.

Looks like Gordon is getting the last laugh in this situation. I still say match and lowball him in 4 years.

I just quickly scanned Franklin's post, but obviously it's one-sided. He's showing the pros, but you need to consider them alongside the cons to come to a reasonable conclusion. I think anyone with common sense who has watched Hayward play the last four years will tell you, it's crazy to pay him that much money. Somebody on here said Ginobili was making $14 mill, well I'm pretty sure that's a two-year deal. Imagine paying Hayward more than double what Ginobili, perhaps the game's greatest competitor, makes?

The Reasons The Jazz Should Just Say "NO" On Matching Charlotte's Offer

1) He has been in the league 4 years and his shooting percentage has gotten worse each and every year.
2) Usually after big contracts like this, the player comes in and performs poorly
3) Thinks he is a point guard at times and hogs possession's that should be in Trey Burkes or Dante Exum's hands.
4) We have other players capable of making the 3 pt shots, he has been inconsistent and only shot 30% from three last year
5) Makes it harder to resign Burks and Kanter if they have good years
6) Is in good position for rebounds because he trails the offensive player he is guarding on the perimeter
7) His replacement should make up for some of the rebounds.
8) It's too much money for a guy that just isn't worth it
9) Once you sign him you can't trade him because it includes a no trade clause.
10) He is not clutch, when we need him most he disappears.
11) He is a slow starter, every season he starts out slow.

One Word: OVERATED
And if the Jazz match: OVERPAID

Btw, what were we paying DWill? It wasn't this much, was it? And he was twice the player that Hayward is when he played for the Jazz. Now, however, because of injuries and other factors, DWill is no longer elite.

Bottomline for maxing Hayward: There is no case.

The Jazz were paying DWill the same percentage of the cap in the first year of his extension. DWill's contract had bigger raises though. And yeah, DWill was twice the player Gordo is.

LOL hornets fans are quite ticked off about Maxing brickward. Over-paid tin can.

This year Gordon Hayward will make more than Steph Curry, Dirk, Tony Parker, DeMarcus Cousins, Harden, John Wall, Rondo, Joakim, & Duncan

LOL THIS HORNETS TRAIN WRECK. LET HIM GO THE GUY IS A TRASH CAN.

he got over inflated stats on a terrrrrrible team.

Gordon Hayward to Charlotte? Man, that sucks. I hope Utah match what's offered. Couldn't stand it if he went to the Hornets...

Hornets offered Gordon Hayward 65mil tho...Micheal Jordan still sucks *** as a GM/President/owner type

90% of the deals that get NBA fans excited this year, they'll hate in 2 years. If Gordon Hayward gets more than 10 mil per it's an AWFUL deal

I agree! People in the forums all over the place, calling this the worst new contract in the NBA. What would make it worse for the Bobcats is if we could do a sign and trade.

Not only should the Jazz not match the worst new contract in the league, but they should do a sign and trade and really stick it to the Hornets for making such a ridiculous offer.

Don't know if any of you saw this link in the the news section but I thought it had some excellent insight into how Hayward was utilized last year and how he compared to other free agents. It's not hard at all to see Hayward having an outstanding season if he's used a little differently than last year.
Some discussion about shot distribution last season and in previous seasons. Absolutely no discussion about efficiency out of different shot types over time.

Gordo's never been effective on-ball (pick and rolls, isos, post-ups). He's strictly an off-ball player. He's also an average(-ish) defender. A decent off-ball option who's a neutral defender shouldn't be getting paid $16mm per year.
