What's new

2011 draft.....

Can Jazz fans be patient for one more year? As much as we ended the year on a high note (not really because we barely beat the Nuggets reserves) I think next year we could get another top 5 pick. Depending on what happens with the new CBA and what they decide on age requirements to enter the draft (there's been talk of extending it to two years after high school to allowing HS seniors to declare) next years draft could be loaded. This years draft looks like if you don't get a top 2 pick then there's no guarantees, whereas next year it could have the potential of being 12-15 players deep and we'll most likely get two of those. Who knows what's going to happen but the Jazz could potentially get 5-6 top 10 picks in 3 years which is something I never thought I'd see the Jazz do.

My hope is that Knight stays in range of the Jazz's pick, which will require bigs like Jonas, Biyombo and Kanter to pull the usual upward trend for bigs near the draft. I feel like Knight has the best potential to amount to something outside of the the top two, best case Eric Gordon type if he can put on some weight and start finishing at the rim. It's sad that this draft doesn't even seem three players deep now.

Pretty good article on Biyombo. Not sure if it's been posted yet.

Great read! Thanks! I'd absolutely love to see this guy end up on the Jazz. Physically he's a freak. Couple that with insane competitiveness and you've got a once in a lifetime package. On top of that he's intelligent and clearly loves the game. I've seen some people suggest we should draft him if he's there at 12. If this guy lasts that long it would go down as one of the biggest steals in NBA draft history.

Knight's a scorer in a PG's body. Gordon's a 2, sort of a combo but he has the frame of a SG while Knight - even if he adds some weight - just doesn't have Gordon's frame so don't think they're really comparable. In alot of ways, I think Knight's NBA-comparison is Devin Harris w/range.

With Barnes out there is absolutely no prospect I'm in love with. Terrance Jones is very intriuging - don't like him at 6, would love him at 12 (he'll probably go somewhere between those picks). Assuming we end up at 6 and 12, I would definitely do my best to explore trading one of those picks - likely for a [edited] 2012 1st (likely w/some protection). Might be getting $.75 on the dollar, but I still think it would be worth it.

i am assuming you meant a 2012 first. Will 2012 potentially being very strong it will be hard to do such a thing anyway. Barnes unless we moved up was not going to be there anyway. Granted now with 3 potentail top 5 guys out it will hurt our pick. I am definitely guessing we will draft one intl player and one PG. The question is who? For those who think KOC is horrible time to go on the record after we know who is in.

Dont think there is much chance he will be at 12 now. Probably have to take him with the 6th pick. If we are looking for a big guy who plays different than the guys we already have definitely have to look at Vesely. Better 3pt shooter than the rest of the big men (unless you include Mirotic).

I say we draft Sullinger, and if he's not available we should take Barnes... if he's gone how about we take that Jones kid.
If none of those are available we should take either Zeller or Henson from NC, they are both decent big men.
This is a really deep draft, so someone should be available that will make a difference.
I love it when plans work out perfectly.

Come on man. Dont you read ESPN all these guys pulled out. :) Unless the new CBA restricts Freshman from entering there are going to be some guys sorry they did not declare this year!

The Jazz should draft Kyrie Irving if they somehow get the number 1 pick in the draft. I like Harris as a point guard but i'm not sure he is the Jazz point guard of the future yet-- i think Irving would be the right pick Also, according to espn's Chad Ford, the Jazz are big on Jimmer Fredette. They think he can be a pretty good point guard in a few years at the NBA level! If Drafting Jimmer worked out, he would attract a lot of the BYU and college B-ball fanbase in utah, that don't watch the Jazz. just a thought! :)

Nice first post, and welcome.

If we are lucky enough to get Irving, we better not draft Fredette with the 12.
I like Jimmer, and if we get a wing, or big man at 5 or 6... or earlier, I think we should take a look at getting Jimmer @ 12.
Personally I think Jimmer will turn into a decent point guard in the league, 50/50 he would turn into a regular starter, and a small chance he would ever become even a 1 time all-star. We can hope though.

Not to many people thought Stockton was going to be that good. Jazz fanz apparently booed the pick like Hayward. Jimmer might shock the world. Then again he might only be on the court when a team desperately needs a 3.
