*****2013 Training Camp Updates and Discussion Thread*****

The weakness of the bench has yet to be determined. On paper it looks weak if the Core5 start but no on knows how the GS guys are going to play. They've had mixed success in their careers but perhaps with added opportunities they play better than expected. One thing I know the Jazz seem to do a better job maximizing guys talents.

I am ok with Burks being the man on the second unit and even being the PG. He does better with the ball in his hands. If Ian Clark is ready for minutes he can guard the smaller guards. Burks, Clark, Jefferson, Evans and Gobert/Biedrins would be ok. Start Burke Hayward, Rush, Favors and Kanter.

If Burks can't handle the PG then move him to SG and let Lucas or Clark battle it out for the backup PG. I don't think there will be two complete squads (1st and 2nd). Some of the starters will come in leaving them with more offensive opportunities. It will depend on matchups, injuries and how well certain players play together. My biggest concern about the bench is doing they have enough scoring. That will depend on if Clark can play and if Jefferson is closer to his better years than last year.

I don't think there should even be a "bench unit" to worry about....
Stagger the substitutions so that you always have starters on the court at all times.

Also our starters are all 21 - 23 years old so the bench should barely have to play at all. These guys should be able to handle lots of minutes

I would like to the jazz have a much tighter rotation this year (if we try to win and not tank anyway)

Choose between marvin and evans to be the backup big and then take favors out and put in the back up big with kanter..... then a bit later take kanter out for favors (at center) with the back up big..... then a while later bring kanter back in.

Same with the wings..... Bring rush in for burks..... a while later bring burks back in to play with rush..... then bring hayward back in later on.

No need for us to even play biedrins, jefferson, gobert, and a few others. (unless we are tanking and we want to play all of our crap and develop guys for the future, ie gobert)

Pick your 8 or 9 best guys and go with them, so then you never have to worry about this horrible bench of jefferson, rush, JLIII, biedrins, and marvin/jeremy

I mean think of how wade needs the ball in his hands.... wouldn't he just be awesome with the second unit!?
Consider how much more Lebron played in the post last season, and how much more Bosh played off-ball (where he's improved by leaps and bounds).

Consider the extreme case where you have 5 guys who are good on-ball and poor off-ball players on the court at the same time, with 5 guys who are good off-ball and poor on-ball players on the bench. Do you really think this is the best way to match talent? Do you think overall talent level is the only thing that matters, or might there be some potential gains by building lineups based on skill complementarity?

FWIW, if Burke struggles early, Hayward doesn't show much improvement with the ball in his hands and/or Kanter continues to struggle with turnovers and tunnel vision, having Burks out there with the starters makes more sense. If the Jazz can get adequate (relative to what Burks would add) creation from the three aforementioned players, I'd rather start a player who adds more floor spacing and defense (Rush or potentially Jefferson).

I've said all along we only need to go 8 deep -- baring injury or excessive foul trouble. If we end up being 9 or 10 deep, then maybe our bench isn't that bad after all.

Richard Jefferson, Andris Biedrins, Rudy Gobert, Marvin Williams, john Lucas.... I do not agree that this bench has no quality... Maybe it would lack a bit energy, but to avoid it we could start Biedrins and bring Kanter in from bench...

how does this Caka poster have pos reps?

Americans understand about irony... If I have to read in some threads, that skinny Gobert should replace Favors in the line up. Then their is no problem to read about Biedrins replacing Kanter for other issues.

This is a guy with a message, fellas. You should not only respect him, but also praise him.

Fine, I will take a step back and try to find the awesomeness and hilariousness.

Nah, you can say whatever the **** you want about him. But he is not a dumbass is the least I can tell you. His sarcasm about some things look clear to me. The only difference is, he never ends the joke.
