Mullens would never come to Utah.
So if Whit leaves who might be willing to coach Utah?
Is there a young successful HC at a non P5 conference school that would jump at a PAC 12 HC job?

Unlikely yes. Never? Not so fast.


Pay wise I'm just guessing that with both schools being in P5 conferences, Utah could throw comprable money at him. I don't think either school ever pays a coach Alabama money so the playing field might be pretty level. Competition wise, as it sits right now, Mullen plays and recruits in the shadow of the likes of Bama and LSU, just to name a few. Maybe he likes his chances a bit better overall dealing with USC and UCLA? I've heard before that he holds his past time in Utah with very high regard as well. All of this doesn't mean a lot, but I doubt "never" is safe to say either.

Agreed.

The longer this goes, the more and more I feel like Whitt is back with an extension. If everything was as bad between Hill/Whitt as the rumor mill suggests, the axe would have already fallen. Plus, if you have Gordon Monson and Derik Stevensen claiming Whitt is a goner and BYU bound, you can pretty much bank on the opposite.
 
Something happened over the weekend. Whit and Hill met and it looks like there was some progress made. I think the longer things stall out the better it looks for Hill to keep Whit.

Monson didn't say he was BYU bound. He said that he could see the possibility of going to BYU would only be in another year or two. If anything, he was responding to Stevenson's outrageous claim.

Monson did speculate that the Whit era was over and that he would sit out this next year and find another coaching job next year.

As far as Stevensen goes. Who the hell is he? Seriously, who is he?
