2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

Great post. I just can't wrap my head around OP Jr being worth the risk of giving up the opportunity to land FAs. I realize the reluctance to put our eggs in that basket considering our market and history, but the OPJr deal taking you out of 2019 FA for sure and makes 2020 really tough to generate a max-level spot.

I like the op Jr idea... right time frame... two way player and there may be more to him. He’s played with Wall his whole career... guy does nothing when he doesn’t have the ball and playing with a guy that controls the ball so much but doesn’t help offball may have stunted what he could become.

Someone pointed to his college assist numbers as a sign there is more there they haven’t uncovered. I think he can be the combo forward we’ve wanted and at very least is a really solid player to add to our dynamic guys. Advanced on/off numbers have always loved him... there is still some mystery there imo.

I think we only make the big trade for OP jr., Harris, Middleton (zero chance he is available), maybe Barnes or Niko.

Otherwise we make maybe a move around the fringes that doesn’t compromise cap space.

I still wonder if Atlanta would do a straight Prince for our first round pick... probably light on our end but I’m not sure how many first are out there.

For example Otto without John Wall this month has been 17 pts. 6 rebs. 1.5 assists in 27 minutes per game. 9 game sample so not huge but not tiny either.

TS% of 58.1 Net plus minus rating per 100 of +13.5 USG of 24 instead of his normal 16 this season.

If he had a good coach and team structure that empowered him he might be like a 19-20 point per game guy on great efficiency and a good defender. Also entering his prime.

I'd been reluctant to throw a first with Favs and cap fodder, but I think I'd do it at this point.

Nows the time to go after BJelly. He seems to be in the doghouse, with minutes going down each game. I think he could be had for really cheap

Not sure... dealing with that front office is likely exhausting but I’d place a call.

His production has fallen off so it might be that he deserves to be in the doghouse.

Thabo and a second for Bjelly?

It's too bad Trey Lyles was a puke and burned bridges here... think he could be had for cheap and could get more pt here.

Seriously? Firsts can suck it. Of course you throw in a first if you can acquire a good young player in a position of need.

Yeah... I think the stint without wall is important though. I wasn't sure if Otto had regressed or was just over it... it appears he was kind of over it.

I think the Wiz are more likely to sell a first for a win-now piece and Bryant stepping up has kind of cooled their need for a big. I highly doubt Otto is or will become available at a price we'd pay.

If Porter does become available, a 1st will be necessary. Sacramento, New Orleans, and Dallas among others will be competing for him.

Sacramento and Dallas can't offer a 2019 or 2020 first, but I agree. NO is the team to watch there. Niko/Hill and a pick might be viewed as a win-now, but alleviate some cap issues deal. IDK... I just think they don't do anything big.

The Wizard are pretty bad, and are way more than one average starter away from being in win-now mode. I don't know their management, but I assume they're rational people who don't want their ceiling to be a first round exit. I bet they try to blow it up. They can get good assets for Beal, and use whatever they get from OPJr to offload Wall.
