I’m hoping that Scotland goes independent in about 1.5 years (that seems about as soon as the movement could finally coalesce and get over the top with a solid majority). I think they’ll have a lot of good ideas for how to promote participation, protect labor and the environment, etc.

My wife and I were there for a couple of weeks last year and we really loved it. I think we’d seriously consider moving there if they went independent.

But seriously.... my Scottish friend at work and I watched in disbelief when the independence referendum was voted down prior to the Brexit fiasco. Here's hoping that it eventually happens.
I am of Scottish descent... would love nothing more than to see Scotland as a sovereign nation.

My great grandparents emigrated from Bern. A very cool place, and if I moved there, it is where I want to be, although my Swiss German is not very good.

I'd have to live there 10 years to get citizenship (less for my kids). And the personal tax rate is 40%, social security 12% , sales tax 7.7%, 18% corporate tax, and very low property tax. There were restrictions on my ability to rent out a house I purchase, which could cause issues if I buy, want to move and rent my old place. Overall, I decided not to do it.
