2020 Presidential election

The article says that, according to the Chinese students in the class, the professor is mispronouncing the word and making it more like the American insult. Perhaps not. Professors rarely get railroaded.
If you're around older Chinese men in Beijing the word sounds exactly the same and people will say it a lot. Sometimes 3x between most words.

That is very dumb. The school needs to back this teacher and explain there's nothing wrong with it. Students, parents, and people at the school need to be educated.

I don't see a connection to Trump or Biden though.

It is very shocking and hard to get used to hearing that word all the time. It's a also strange to me that isn't what the word is. It's supposed to sound like Nah Gu. The word is supposed to be that. But somehow it changed to also be the equivalent of um as well. But the word changed. I'm curious why it changed. I use the original way of saying it because I don't like the other word and don't want to get used to saying it, haha.

I had an earlier post about it. Biden is guilty by association. The radical left is becoming so absurd, and so indefensible, that its pushing a lot of middle aged white people back into Trump. And there are a **** ton of middle aged white people that were or are on the fence who are just going to vote Trump to stick it to the dumbasses on the left. I know it's not Biden's fault, but he's the Dem so he is guilty in a lot of peoples minds. And it's 100% the media, which everone knows is a majority liberal, and the people who have devoted their lives to being anti - Trump. Those are the people responsible for pushing people into Trump.

That's a huge stretch. The opposite would be true as well then.

It's not even a small stretch, but yes it is true for the other side. I for example am a moderate that could vote either way but Trump's b.s. makes it impossible for me to vote for him. My brother on the other hand really dislikes Trump but is so fed up with the media and the far left's antics he cannot vote dem. He had almost nothing negative to say about Biden, other than he thinks he is a moron similar to Trump.

My point is Biden should win this election in a landslide, but my points above will make it a lot closer than it should be.

I haven't seen this in any polling crosstabs. There's simply not that many undecideds right now.

Biden is going to have to a have a major pitfall between now and election day - and even that may not matter as Trump can't help but trip over himself likewise. Every day that goes by where Biden doesn't make a mistake is a win.

Does your brother know how a remote works? I’m sure there are other ways to turn off the media, too.

I hope it isn’t too long before we all look back and realize how ridiculous 90% of our comments about “the media” were. There’s a huge percentage of them that sound PRECISELY like a slightly modified version of “I CANNOT TURN THIS **** OFF! Does this not Entertain you?! But why are people making THOSE decisions when THESE OTHER ONES would be more satisfying/Entertaining.”

To all of you Entertainment Addicts:
I’m sure it would take you less than a week to find a mix of perspectives that provided you the solid reporting you needed to satisfy your civic duty to be informed. You maybe should do some meditation about whether your mix contains enough local stuff, and about whether it’s sufficiently freed from the over-broiled and intentionally addicting national news. But you’re in control of this mix. The disquiet and weariness you’re feeling can be redirected to better ends.

You need to realize that “the media” has become such a broad term in the last 20 years that we’re still trying to catch up with it. It’s reached stratospheric levels of ubiquity—meaning, it’s expressing a HUGE bandwidth of the total possible expression. It’s very saturated. Therefore, it’s impossible to say something like “The Media has all gone completely berserk,” because simultaneously to any berzerkness there are people who are bringing some kind of cohesion and order. Jerry Seinfeld has pushed back on the phrase “Have you seen _______? It’s literally all over the internet”—because the whole idea that a thing is being covered ALL OVER the vastness of the internet is patently ridiculous.

Turn off the media that’s driving you nuts and find some that engages you in a better way. I’ll leave “better” up to you. It’s just ****ing crazy how trucked some of you are..... and how willing you seem to be to put someone else’s words in your own mouth, and pass as if these are your conclusions. Stop doing that, pls.

What percentage of complaints about The Media are complaints about Fox, MSNBC, and CNN?

Unless you’re deliberately turning yourself into an anthropologist or cultural critic who is working up comprehensive analyses of this corner of the media, then you can literally just turn this **** off. You’ll actually have a better chance at being more informed (if that’s your goal). There’s plenty of high-quality stuff out there. Or, you might finally get unplugged and achieve something you’ve always wanted to do which has NOTHING to do with the breathless national media machine.

Turn it off.

If you’re going to step into the myth of Empowered Consumer Who Gets What He Wants, then please don’t leave out the ****ing Empowered part.

It will be close because the country is pretty split, that's why it's almost always close and why we go back and forth between which party is president. Those aren't really similar examples at all. The college thing isn't because of Biden. It just happened and that was with Trump president. He has no effect on that regardless of who wins. Trump on the other hand has a large effect on his own BS.

Also a lot of people say they are something they are not politically and say they are voting for a specific reason, but often that's not the truth either. I take those things with a grain of salt. But then again lots of people have bought into both parties propoganda, like the whole "media" thing.
