I do feel like we should look for youth in this draft. The way COVID affected the season, a lot of the freshmen may have underperformed, while upperclassmen overperformed. Could get some really good underclassmen fall in the draft and we could capitalize on that...

Personally, I'm not sold on Grimes, though it's possible that the Jazz are. I could absolutely see the Jazz take Dosunmu or McBride if they draft at #30. I'd call that the most likely outcome. I'd be okay with it, though I'm intrigued by some guys with more size and long-term upside--like Vrenz, Thor and maybe Todd.

Out of these guys that have most recently been projected to the Jazz (+ McBride), I think the only ones I see possibly capable of playing a useful role for the Jazz next year (apart from if Conley leaves, plus a subsequent semi- tear down) are Robinson-Earl and Murphy (given the possibility of Favors & Niang departing). And if they overachieve, perhaps McBride, Dosunmu, and Butler.

Playing a role on a healthy, contending Jazz team is probably a best-case (not likely) scenario for any draftee at #30. But it's generally these "low-ceiling" guys who are currently solid on both sides of the ball that have the best chance.
 
Dont want McBride simply because resigning Conley would easily turn it into another Doke situation. He would then become our third string PG that rarely get any PT, when we could've drafted an athletic wing or small ball 4/5 that gets PT right away.
 
Assuming that the biggest change to the wing rotation is Niang moving on, which athletic wing do you think could get immediate playing time for the Jazz?

The only one I really think has a decent chance is Murphy (but he'll very, very likely be gone before #30).

No it wouldnt lmao.

He can still play either backcourt spot or you could go small with 3-guard lineups. There would be plenty of opportunity for him to get minutes. Any position the Jazz draft will be hard for a player to get minutes if Conley comes back.

This is my worry too. It seems to be the Jazz way. Personally, it is a major frustration I have with this organization. I really do not know if I could take another Doka situation. I am hoping for a guy who can get minutes in either the SF or PF which are the Jazz weak spots.

@Saint Cy of JFC : Is your aversion to Jones:

a) you bet on Bama once and he choked, losing you money (I keep seeing you comment on him choking)
b) just an anti-Bama thing
c) something real in your evaluation of Jones?

I get that he may never see the floor if he can't find some way to put the ball in the basket, but everything else about him (from my distant view) seems like someone the Jazz should be very interested in.

I like Thor. I know he's got slow lateral speed but he could still be a nice 4/5 option in a small lineup. Same goes for Garuba(not sure if he's gonna last till #30).

As for 3D wings I like Grimes. Basically a mini Royce/Josh Hart type that we desperately need. Oni can then kiss his Jazz jersey goodbye. Greg Brown and BJ Boston would be nice options if we buy a second round pick. They would be too raw to get minutes right away though.

That would be the argument for the 6'5 Dosunmo or Primo, certainly not for the 6'2 McBride who's projected to be a PG-only in the NBA. Three guard lineups only work if we have lengthy guards who can switch 1-3. Not three undersized guards that the opponents can simply shoot over. There's no way we would put McBride on the court together with Conley and Mitchell, which severely limit his playing opportunities.

I'd be happy enough with Thor. I really wouldn't expect him to get PT, though, for a year or two.

Grimes possibly, but as you say, that would likely just be an Oni replacement at first, not any kind of difference maker.

I'm not into Brown or Boston, and either would almost assuredly be a far longer-term project than Thor.

Garuba? Sure I'd take him. Won't be there at 30 though.
