2023 NBA Draft Megathread

I think Black is safe in that he will be at least a good defensive player.

The offense might be Exum-esque tho.

I expect Arkansas to get beat by 10+ against Kansas

It wasn’t really a story… it was more a comment on a pod type of thing… basically just that he goes to work on game days with his training… and it might explain why he can fade a little in the second half… but just think about it… he doesn’t really care as much how the g league team is doing and more that he’s improving… I think basing the evaluation too much on production in his case might be a mistake. He’s likely not looking at game day the same way some would.

And lol that it’s leaked for a reason… you can just look at his body and tell he works. I doubt he’s trying to convince anyone he’s a worker because he doesn’t need to.

The shooting is the swing skill… but that’s where he goes from all star ceiling to like all nba first team type of stuff. I’d bet on it for us for sure… if a team with an established all star pg lands #2 then they should consider Miller. The fit is enticing with him… I’ll admit that.

I think the rub with him, and I've seen this on twitter as well, is that he hasn't improved very much YOY. His numbers in his first year were extremely impressive for how young he was and that's why he came into this year as a clear #1 level prospect for me. The lack of progress has definitely dampened my excitement of him. He's not bad, but just not a generational PG prospect in my eyes. There are a myriad of excuses for every player no matter competition they play in, and some of them are valid, but at some point the production has to matter.

The biggest worry about the shot is that he simply does not take many. If I'm going to buy into this "he's not looking great because he's working on his game" stuff, I would at least like to see him attempt to be the player he needs to be in order to be a star in the NBA. His 3 point rate and free throw rate are dangerously low. That's what worries me more than the percentages. Tough living to survive in the NBA like this, and I don't think he's not taking 3's or FT's because he's holding back. Guards who are efficient but don't shoot 3's or FT's don't really exist in the NBA.

Brandon MIller choke artist no points on 5 attempts and his teammates scored 96.
St. Nothing crawling under his quicksand soapbox now lol

This is why I hesitated to compare him to guys like Lonzo/Giddey which you see a lot. I think those guys are both elite passers and have exceptional basketball IQ. They are on another level. I think Black's most likely outcome is more like a Terrance Mann type. Defense he will great like you said. Offensively...we'll have to wait and see. I worry that he might get caught in the dilemma where he's best with the ball in his hands (due to a lack of shooting) but also not very good with the ball. The Exum concern is kinda valid, though I think he will be better than that.

Watching Flip… ya know I think he’s third on my board… he’s the third highest Duke player on my board.

He probably has a monster second half but he doesn’t look like the baller I was promised… also has that Rod Hood tummy…

Quite convenient you haven’t watched him all season and you magically watched the first half he "struggled" in. Still has 5 boards and his team is up 17 at half. Brandon Miller must suck too. How many points did he score today?
