2024-2025 Tank Race

Herb Jones gonna be out for the year with a Labrum, and now NOP suspending Zion. Yeah they're in for the tank, and they'll win it again because of course they will.

Lauri is absolutely a #2 option...

I'd like to believe that, but he can't create much for himself. Real #2 options, like Jaylen Brown, Kyrie Irving, Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren, etc., can put the ball down and make a play. Lauri is mostly a spot-up shooter, cutter and play finisher. He's good at those things, but functionally he's similar to Michael Porter Jr., or on the Celtics he'd be analogous to Porzingis.

What was Klay with GS? Not all teams have to be the same. With more parity across the league I think different play styles are going to produce varying championship teams. He can be the second highest scoring player on a title team.

Klay was a floor-spacer and movement shooter. The key to the Warriors was that Steph did such a good job drawing defenders out to and beyond the 3pt line, that other players had a 4-on-3 advantage with open lanes to playmake and drive to the rim. So guys like Draymond, Iguodala, and whomever else could make plays easier. When KD joined the Warriors, he was the 2nd option, and Klay touched the ball a lot less. The offense was mainly run between Steph/Draymond's hand-off game and KD waiting for the ball with open space to shoot.

The Celtics have built a system where basically everyone on the floor can shoot, defend, handle and create at some level, etc. So guys can play more or less interchangeably, the ball can move, and there are all kinds of paths to scoring. This way, there's less reliance on Tatum being a primary on-ball creator. I think the Jazz appear to be playing that way to some extent, though they don't have the personnel to do it well. (Half our guys can barely handle, don't playmake much, can only shoot in certain situations, etc.)

Actually, if you look at what Lauri can do offensively, he compares well with Anthony Davis. He isn't as dominant a paint scorer, but he's a much better shooter and might be a somewhat close play finisher. Hence, if Lauri were playing next to a guy like Lebron, that could work. But again, he'd be playing off of a dominant playmaker and advantage creator. He wouldn't need to do much off the dribble.

Lauri will probably age out of stardom by the time the Jazz have a #1 so whether he's a #2 or #3 seems kind of irrelevant.
Agreed. Sadly, he should probably be traded next off season if his value is high.

Pelicans off to a 2 point lead! (4:00 left in the second quarter)

Lauri’s abilities and stats are nice. To me though, he doesn’t appear to have remotely any kind of an it factor or mental makeup to be a #2.

He’s a #3 ala Bosh.

Basketball reference has Lauri’s odds at making the Hall of Fame at 0.0%.

But he’s a #2!!!! Sure, sure he is. He’s helped teams win so much.

CJ McCollum averaging 28 PPG in January. They will continue to win games here and there if he is playing. Just insane we got posters on this board prasiing the Pelicans for "knowing how to tank" when they are playing a 33 year old vet.
