2024-2025 Tank Race

Tanking means happily and intentionally losing games to improve the team's draft position. It normally involves weakening parts of the roster before the season, holding out productive players, trading productive players mid-season for future draft capital, and just going through the motions on certain possessions to ensure losses.

The Jazz have been doing all of the above for the past two seasons, and this season as well. The Jazz are not trying to compete for wins, which would generally be considered the normal thing for a professional sports team to do.

Nah. The players don't tank. They gain nothing from losing.

The Raptors have a good team on paper, deep too. But they have been masters of the late game collapse.

Not enough though.

Why are Sexton, Collins and Clarkson still on the roster?

They’re making us too competitive in games.

Tbh the tank is going better than I thought it would with the roster we have.

Jazz have done a good job of having guys miss games.

Gotta keep doing this all year. If Collins, key, and Clarkson come back then we need to sit sexton and/or Lauri/Kessler.

Just keep staggering sitting dudes and keep playing Cody and Collier and flip etc and we should hang around in that bottom 3-5 spot. Thank God the West is better than the East. Nice bonus advantage for us vs the East tankers. Get Zion out there with McCollum and that should give a little separation too.

Bonus with this plan is that the young dudes get to develop.

It just sucks that we are in a 20 win pace which is normally good for 1-3 in the tank race and we sitting at 5. Epic tank race is happening right now.

To your point, since the current draft lotto odds were implemented (2019), there have been 6 players who I judge to be the types of players drafted in the top 5 that we yearn for with this tank. None of the teams that drafted them had as low of a winning percentage as the Jazz's current .243. The teams that drafted these players had the following overall worst records in the league (1 being league worst), as well as these winning percentages:
3 .268 (Wemby)
2 .268 (Paulo)
4 .293 (Chet)
5 .306 (Mobley)
3 .297 (Edwards)
8 .402 (Morant)

It just stinks that other teams are also elite at losing this year. We are putting in the work but it’s still not quite the result it should be lol.
