2024-25 Trade Rumors Thread

Playing around with the Spotrac trade machine. We still have our taxpayer mid-level exception to play with. Let's say Milwaukee wants to make a move to drop below the second apron to save some money or make another trade (they could aggregate salaries then). We send the Cleveland 1st this year (we already have a roster crunch) take back Pat Connaughton and get the 2031 Milwaukee pick unprotected.
I think this makes a lot of sense if they were interested in moving Dame for Jimmy or if Miami wanted Middleton/Lopez.

Can you provide some data showing how often Young makes half courts shots and on how many attempts? Is it really his specialty? Is a half court shot a high percentage shot for him? If you are making these types of claims then you should show your work.
You have to pay for access to this kind of stats, so no. But you can google and easily find the compilations of Trae's super-long threes and the discussions of his long-shooting ability. In general, there are 4 players that you don't want to attempt an open shot from the half court: Lillard, Curry, Young and Pritchard.

Looking closer, Sexton was not even supposed to guard Young, it had to be Cody but Sexton was ball watching and completely missed streaking Krejci. Cody even points out Kreijci to him but because Sexton is a defensive idiot he does nothing and Cody is forced to run to cover Krejci himself, leaving Sexton on Young for his final defensive backpedaling effort. Sexton managed to make three defensive mistakes in the span of two seconds, which is, honestly, quite impressive.

Also, kudos to Cody: he can become a very good defender one day.

We’d actually be able to add Patty going to MIL in this deal as well.

DAL has become a good Sexton/Clarkson destination due to their injuries. They've got Dinwiddie and he's playing well, but they're asking a lot from him.
Not the same trade but now that I remember the MLE being a trade exception there are like a bunch of trades I considered. Like Kleber for Svi and we swap the Cleveland pick for the Dallas first this year (maybe lotto protected or maybe not) and maybe a second. Gives them some guard help but also pulls them all the way out of the tax this year and allows them some room to retain Grimes if they want. Right now the difference isn't much... 30 vs 22, but in the west they are only a few games away from the play in. Maybe you make it top 13 protected to if they are willing. Moving up 10 spots is first round value and its just for renting out cap space. Maybe make it top 14 protected and it doesn't convey we get both the second rounders they have... they have the sixers and their own. We then pawn those off on draft night for other seconds... but its something.

The other deal is GS is $6M into the tax and can duck the whole tax by sending out Moody and Payton for Eubanks and Svi. Moody needs the TPE because of his contract situation. I might want draft capital or might do that straight up. Still can't figure out why Moody doesn't get more run there.

Two things on the trade exception:

1) Don't most teams have their exception available? Not every team will want to use it, but I imagine the cost of dumping contracts will be cheaper knowing there are more destinations.

2) Do we have the Room or non-tax-payer exception? I thought we'd be a room exception team because we used cap space....but sportrac has us listed with the non-taxpayer? Bobby Marks has said we have the room mle.

Many do but as the team with the second lowest payroll we are in a position to use it to take on a player this year and our cap space doesn't matter much next year. There may be some destinations willing to take on a one year salary like Brooklyn but multiyear salary is a no go. So Connaughton, Vincent, Kleber and some others may not have a lot of destinations.

Did we use room? I was under the assumption we have the MLE. Did we use room or other exceptions for Eubanks Svi Juzang? Room MLE would obviously change things.

Drew Eubanks will earn a $5MM guaranteed salary from the Jazz this season, with a $4.75MM non-guaranteed salary for 2025/26, Hoops Rumors has learned. Both Mykahiliuk and Eubanks were signed using a portion of Utah’s leftover cap room

Spotrac is wrong... so we only have room exception of about $8m... still can do some things but not nearly as good. Boo Spotrac.

Could still do the Moody deal but not the other deal. Gets them out of the tax. Maybe we send the Cleveland pick too and get a couple far out seconds they have in exchange.

Moody has PPP, he won't fit into the room MLE.
It works in spotrac when I used another teams RMLE but what does that even mean since they missed out on the other thing. shrug.

Kuzma is such a horrendous fit. What are the Kings thinking?

It doesn't really make sense. Their only backup big would be Alex Len after a Kuzma trade, just awful. Collins can be the backup 5 and play the 4 next to Sabonis. I'm really not sure what Kuzma adds to that team more than Collins, they don't need more chucking.

Additionally, Kuzma has a longer deal (bad money) and is older than Collins. Collins is a better player, is younger, a better position fit, and is on a better contract.

Yeah but Vivek has heard of Kuzma... he don't know this Collins fella. Giving a first for Kuzma would mean the Kangs are all the way back.

It's a damn shame. It would be awesome if we could get a little compensation from the Kings for Collins and then get more by rerouting Huerter to a team like ORL. I know we're all biased here, but it makes a great deal of sense for the Kings IMO.
