I have a very hard time seeing how it's better to build a team around Magic Johnson than LeBron James.

Because prime Magic is every bit as good as a prime Lebron for me. He was still firmly in his prime when he was diagnosed with HIV but even then he still won 5 nba championships and went to 9 nba finals in 12 seasons. He probably had another 4 or 5 elite seasons left in him as well. In the end you can't go wrong with either guy but I prefer Magic.
