Are we really to believe that ****ing Precious Achiuwa - an already-journeyman small-ball center that’s been a negative on/off player - is their answer as a starting center on a contender?

If they’re done looking, they’re done contending. This would be render all of their big moves basically pointless. It’s a bigger downgrade from Hartenstein to Achiuwa than it is from no one to Mikal Bridges.

In other words, I don’t know why this means they should be out of the running. Achiuwa is a fine depth piece, but no serious team should be starting him.

They still have Mitchell Robinson. Precious is the backup and I’m sure Randle will take some minutes there as well. Your point still stand though. The Knicks leftover picks just aren’t that good though.

I don’t think Achuiwa is that good, he’s an OK backup in the right system…but what’s with people shoving on/off down our throats like it’s the end all be all? We’ve got to be a bit more nuanced than that lol.

Man, I don't get the glee some people have toward trading Kessler. If we trade him, so be it, but at some point we're going to wish we had someone like him (in his age range) as we're on our upward path.

Not as much as we’ll need a legit star to build the team around.

For the record, I was the OG WK dude in that draft. You can find rim protectors without drafting at the top of the draft or scoring on one-in-a-million odds a la Giannis and Jokic.

I’m not gleeful to trade Walker, but there are teams that are trying to win now, need a C, and are in a cap crunch. Certainly he has more value to those teams than us, and when that’s the case there’s potential for a favorable deal.

I didn’t say they are. But if I was, I’d be making the point that the difference in winning between having Kessler or not is 2nd only to Lauri.

He’s basically a “he’s available at the right price” kind of guy for me. There’s a good amount of reason to think a team like NOP, or others, could meet that price so I find it interesting to talk about. They might even be willing to overpay given their situation. If there is no Ingram trade, there’s basically no centers the Pelicans could trade for that are as productive while also keeping them under the tax/can be salary matched. I refuse to believe that they don’t have a real plan at C after moving chips in for Murray.

The Jazz are likely not competing for anything this year and will also likely be under the cap even after Lauri R+E. His rookie deal is so much more valuable for a team both trying to compete and in a salary crunch. He also significantly affects the tank race if that is a goal for us this year or next. If given enough minutes, he could have an outsized impact because of his defensive floor raising ability.

His value will remain high through the season….but I do think it’s pretty high right now based on scarcity. Given the way he was treated last season, I can’t see the FO being ridiculously high on him to the point that he’s untouchable either. He’s not Lauri or Key. I don’t think we’ll give him away for cheap but it won’t take some gargantuan offer for us to move on.
