Suggs would be the salary dump but I could also see WCJ getting dumped after this season. If either guy has another injury plagued year they may not be able to get off the money. That team got really spendy really fast.

Bet they would dump Isaac if they could right now... something to watch with the TPE we have. Not that we would take him but could be a three team type deal.

IMO just get rid of it. Let the market speak for itself across all positions + “star” tiers.

It's bad for the league to have teams that are in semi-permanent purgatory, I think having max salaries mostly save franchises from themselves.

I’m thinking long term. Most teams don’t work out, that’s just the reality of chasing a championship. And if they fail to meet sky high expectations, one of Franz or Paolo will probably be moved.

Franz is just someone I want to keep an eye on in the next upcoming years if/when we try to trade for a star.

I wonder if the NBA will ever lower the max contract. The difference between a super max guy and what teams want to pay borderline starter level role players is so vast now.

Never. The high-end players would never allow it and the NBAPA would look bad going along with it. I’d imagine they’d let the rift fester and then do a quick sleight-of-hand to channel that angst toward owners and then try to leverage that into more weight in CBA negotiation.

seems like it’s been a talking point for A Very Long Time that to achieve parity in the nba, you need unlimited max salary + hard cap. Feels like super max + second apron is sort of achieving that goal.

I think they’re perfectly happy with their lowball offer hoping he takes it, but the moment the market sets the price they match it - just like the Jazz did with Hayward and Charlotte. The big backfire was it allowed someone else to set the terms and the Jazz lost at least a year of his service because he had that player option.

I think there is a real chance one of these guys takes the qualifying offer. Right now teams could really dig in and say like 4/70M-80M and its better than anything available to them.

Not a surprise, but that payroll is going to get out of control real fast. I wonder if there might be an opportunity to get one of their “big three” here when it becomes unsustainable.
