Isn't it?
That's a good point
I'd hate to trade Exum, then have him turn into the next Jason Kidd in the next 3-4 years. Not saying he will but that's the other side of the coin argument.
Or play all 3. Trade Exum and Jingles for a PG.
for the record, I would hate it if we traded Exum.
I agree in many ways. The clock is ticking on our roster. We have to start making progress this year in order to keep the team we have intact 2-3 years from now. If this year is a big disappointment I expect some of our biggest pieces to leave
Gobert, Hayward, Favors, Burks, Hood and Exum are all off the table for me.
I'd start the season with Burks starting at PG and see how it goes. If it's failing pretty miserably by mid season. . . then you aggressively pursue a trade for someone who can start for a year or two until Exum proves he can come back healthy and improved. Then you take the decent draft pick and look to make a big splash in the offseason to take a step up next year.
I don't think it'll be as hard to get one as people make it out to be. PG was easily the most tradable position at the deadline last season. I expect the same thing this year.
Personally, I've been banging the Linsanity drum for the past two off seasons. Think he'd have been a great fit for Quin Snyder and the Jazz.
ThisGood post. Nice to see you around again
Neither Burke or Exum might be the answer to Nu-Jazz. I get that Exum has the size and the defensive skillset but what Jazz actually needs is a fearless driver with true playmaking ability. Burke has the ability but chooses to chuck. Exum is not yet tough enough to be that kind of player. Jazz should throw a little more aggressiveness in there alongside a mental toughness, basketball court vision and willingness to make plays who still remains the defensive effort. Not the hardest thing to find. But trading Exum would be bad. Exum is a child. You have to transform him into a man. He can be the future. (As much as I love watching Burks do his thing, I wouldn't wanna see him at PG other than a few meaningless games. Burks does not give a dang about making plays).
What do you mean by the bold part of the quote? Please expound.
I was talking about the characteristics of Alec's game. He likes to take it straight to the hoop. He can dish a few great ones here and there but ultimately, he is not you pass first PG.
Thank you. Yes, most of the time he will be the one shooting. More balance in shots vs dishes should help team effectiveness as well as give him better looks. If the defender(s) can't lock in on stopping the shot there will be more space. I think he has (beginning of last season, preseason now) improved in this area, but that is the eye test. I have nothing to back it up.
Your three wing lineup -- Burks isn't a bandaid he's been a neck tourniquet when attempting to run the (his) offense.
