OK, now for a serious reply.
Though I like Bullets view on significant arms and his appreciation of the value of a populace competent with small arms, I believe Dutch understands Venezuela in seriously the right context. The Venezuelans had small arms( in lesser numbers I believe than the US, but the gun control law went into effect precisely because the government did not want to deal with that kind of static. I think it goes hard on the paid military to counter domestic civilian small arms, especially with bigger weapons.
So, yes, gun control is an objective of some authoritarian sorts of aspiring leaders with ideas about changing things. It would have cowed the government of Venezuela.
It would cow a Hillary or an Obama or a Trump with big ideas, too.
So I am absolutely in favor of 2nd Amendment, regardless of nuclear weapons or any Naval capacities. I'm in an Air Force exercise zone, and I get to see bombers and fighters at low altitude all the time, even missiles. The nice folks of the USAF, some significant-looking brass, came driving down my road to politely ask if they could take pictures so they could program their toys to miss me.
Hell yeah. But more importantly, it's knowing they respect the people that makes it all good.
