All-Time Major League Baseball Draft

We draft anyone who's ever played professional baseball and by the end of the draft must have eight starting position players, five starting pitchers, one closer, and two other players of any position. We'll do it ina snake order draft, won't be doing it decade by decade or anything like that. Any player of any generation can be drafted in any round.

Who's in?

Me.

I vote MLB players only. It's too hard to adjust for Negro League and NPB players. What if someone takes Satchel Page, Josh Gibson or Yu Darvish, for example?

Satchel Paige pitched in the majors, but I agree with GVC. MLB only. No Josh Gibson (unfortunately). No Sadahura Oh. No Crash Davis.

Yes, but would you be drafting prime Satchel or 40-something-year-old Satchel? I doubt the old MLB Satchel would make the cut (and I'm fully aware that he was an effective pitcher even at a very advanced age).

I also think it would be best that you pick a player's 3-5 year (not sure what would be best) prime, rather than his whole career. Hank Greenberg > Pete Rose.

Fine. **** you guys once again. I was hoping to slip that by some peeps and get Paige, Oh or Gibson at some point but oh well.

Not for nothing but my dumbass did say MLB draft in the thread.

Time to scratch Nuke off my list.

I'm not in, but may I suggest you either a) have a panel of judges or b) a poll so jazzfanz members can vote who they think drafted the best team. If you don't do that, then your game is no better than, Who's Line is it Anyway?

I don't like doing this. What if it's a player like Mays who was great for a long time? Do we take his 1957-1961 and then someone else takes 1962-1966?

I dunno, I thought our band draft was plenty fun. I also don't trust any panel of experts we could assemble on Jazzfanz. It's interesting to me to see how people make their selections and put together a team.
