Okay, so I laid out the process of a vasectomy based on my experience. I did have local anesthetic applied to my genital area.
A vasectomy is a surgical procedure altering anatomy and making incisions that you’re closing. Placing an IUD requires visualizing the cervix and deploying the IUD into the uterus through the opening of the cervix. No incisions, no closure. I can’t speak to the speed of your specific procedure, but the average times of each procedure would have the IUD placement performed in significantly less time, very little prep, and much less clean up. Vasectomy will still require microscopic sample confirmation vs. a very quick check with an ultrasound to ensure the IUD is still within the uterus. Though I guess if your PCP is placing the IUD (I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen a PCP place IUDs, though I’m sure some do it) and not an OBGyn, then perhaps they wouldn’t have quick access to ultrasound that they’d do in-office if there was question of whether the IUD was still intrauterine. I’d guess that the vast majority of anyone with an IUD has them placed by an OB office, though.
Is it done without anesthetic? I know when I've interreacted with a cervix it was made clear that a significant amount of pain was caused.
Also I really like how you describe a "change to anatomy." A grand total of like 2cm of incisions are made, 1cm to the scrotum and .5cm per tube. Yes anatomy has been changed... get ****ing real. You make it sound like dudes are getting their balls chopped off.
I’m sure some people somewhere are doing a local anesthetic but it is generally not done and would be an exception.
Again emphasizing that I’m mot making any social commentary. I’m not saying which is “more brutal” or what should or shouldn’t be done or implying anything as a result of answering the question that IUD placement is a more simple procedure than a vasectomy. If we were talking about IUD placement vs. tubal ligation, I would again appeal to a significant difference in those procedures, too, and emphasize tubal ligation changing anatomy as one of the significant differences between the two (among others). I’m not speaking to any social baggage or societal implications resulting from a procedure, just their relative ease or complexity to perform.
But, again, it introduces hormonal changes, which adds a layer of chaos into it. You don't know what effect that will have on someone, but almost certainly more than a vasectomy.
I wonder if the real problem is running a society on foundations at odds with human nature.
We're slightly more intelligent chimps and bonobos. They don't have notions like nuclear families or sexual shame. In fact, those are pretty recent concepts for humans.
