Any free agents still available that would make a difference now??

I'm wondering if anybody knows of any current free agents that would actually make a difference for the Jazz this season.
With the team now under the salary cap.... and with their bad injury history, I would look at picking someone else up.
Of course we all know of Kirilenko.
Anyone else?

We're not under the salary cap, so there isn't much to discuss when it comes to signing free agents. We can only re-sign our own free agents, which means AK, Elson, or Fes. AK wants too much, Elson and Fes produce so little.

The Memo trade put the Jazz under the salary cap...

The only reliable site I found with full salary information for the Jazz was realgm.com (from their trade checker). Adding up the Jazz salary ratio and multiplying by 14/51.1 (that is, Jefferson's actual salary divided by his realgm salary ratio), the Jazz total salary comes in at about $57.6million. The cap this year is the same as last year, $58.04million. Not really much space there to sign anyone (without using the $3million tax payer MLE). Was Josh Howard signed using the MLE (seems that must be the case)? If so, the Jazz don't have any space to sign anyone except those willing to sign for league minimum contracts.

Well, and also there's this. It's from the last CBA, but I'm sure the rules are similar. It makes me wonder if we'll actually be able to use the TPE next year like I thought we would.

If a team is below the cap, then their Disabled Player, Bi-Annual, Mid-Level and/or Traded Player exceptions are added to their team salary, and the league treats the team as though they are over the cap. This is to prevent a loophole, in a manner similar to free agent amounts (see question numbers 30, 31, 32, 33). A team can't act like they're under the cap and sign free agents using cap room, and then use their Disabled Player, Bi-Annual, Mid-Level and/or Traded Player exceptions. Consequently, the exceptions are added to their team salary (putting the team over the cap) if the team is under the cap and adding the exceptions puts them over the cap. If a team is already over the cap, then the exceptions are not added to their team salary. There would be no point in doing so, since there is no cap room for signing free agents.

So being under the cap does not necessarily mean a team has room to sign free agents.

Ya, there's that. Either way, the Jazz don't have any cap space to sign free agents.

I think that's talking about cap holds. To give an example, if the Jazz were under the cap this year then a certain value for resigning AK would be added to existing payroll for cap purposes. That way, the Jazz could not sign someone in free agency and then use bird rights to resign AK. They would have had to renounce the rights to AK before using that money.

If TPE's have a cap hold associated then the Jazz won't be able to sign a free agent and then use the TPE in addition.
