Are you guys completely cool with your kids dating/marrying someone of a different race?

Mainstream American values are simply different than Muslim values. Hard to build that relationship when the parties are so far apart on things like that.

Prejudices.

If some guys would know that Christians, Jews and Muslims have the same origin, the same god and the exactly same history with the exception of some little details, they would understand that they are rather similar than different.

Everyone should inform himself/herself about the different cultures, religions, races. They should not only focus on what is written in the media, it's more about what is written in different sources. They should get to know some different people, cultures. Many people still have no clue and only see differences instead of similarities.

Again I think you are taking it the wrong way. I have not seen anyone say they would bar their child from marying a Muslim. If my daughter wanted to I would give her my honest opinion. Then I would accept what ever decision she made as she is an adult and can decide for her self.

Muslim is not Muslim.

American is not American.

Christian is not Christian.

You generalize too much. You have the picture of some radical countries and people.

But there are also the moderate ones. There are many Muslims that have the same values as Americans.

The so called 'American values' are not something you could define.

Many Muslims also care about democracy, freedom, human rights and so on.

There is nothing like the only one 'American value' or the only one 'Muslim'. You work a bit with generalizations and stereotypes.

Now, this is going to be controversial but I got to ask it. I think Caucasians/Whites are on average by far the best looking people. Is this because I am Caucasian/White? Like do Asian's think that their own race is the best looking and Mexicans think their own race is the best looking? However in like Anime, Asians usually mimic whites (especially blond/redhead girls) and the stereotype is that black men like white women etc so I have my suspicion. One of my best friends is from Pakistan and he said he thinks Pakistani woman are the best looking but I get the feeling he is in the minority. It is an honest question!

I know. I get your point.

You say it's okay since it's all about making your daughter happy.

But you still would not feel comfortable and you would have many oppen questions.

It's like I'd be okay with it but I'd rather have someone else dating my daughter. It's a bittersweet feeling.

Yes I am generalizing. But so are you with your claims of prejudice. If my daughter wanted to live a very conservative Muslim lifestlye I would give her my opinion and then let her make her own choice.

It is a case by case thing. Same with just announcing prejudice. But you did not seem to have a problem with that so I though generalizations were OK in this arguement.

If you talk like this, I don't use the word 'prejudices' any more.

You bring a very good point: as a father, you only want the best for your children and you want to protect them from making mistakes.

But if someone just gives a short answer like 'no muslims', that's prejudice and generalization because there are no arguments and explanations.

People should explain exactly, in detail why they think this way and not different so that they can impress other people.
