What's new

At what point is it time to get concerned about Hayward?

3. Hayward isn't just an offensive piece. Duh.

They scored 95 points per game last year, 5th worst in the league.. If Hayward isn't clearly the first option on offense - Does that mean the Jazz are to outduel teams like the Warriors, collectively????
(instead of being led by the highest paid player?!) -- This is where I start to get fuzzy about the whole conversation.

Thru 3 games this season their scoring 94.3..

Last year's offensive efficiency was 102.5, 15th in the league.

This year it is 99.6, 16th in the league.

With this small a sample, it is not a statistically significant difference.

Thats all well and good. I'm talking about matchups here though.Whats having the 15th best offensive efficiency really worth in a series vs the Warriors.. It's still not even close to good enough.. That team isn't going anywhere..

The ASB? He has played at a high level all season. Hayward is doing everything but score and the Jazz have a winning record.

Well having the 15th best offensive efficiency is amplified when you have the #1 deffensive efficiency. Also the Jazz are not really competing with the Warriors this year. Their direct competition is the Pelicans, Kings, Suns, Mavs...

Scoring aside, seems like little difference when Hayward is off the floor.

Plus/Minus/36 min Jazz Rankings:

This year: Neto, Gobert, Hood, Favors, Booker, Milsap, Hayward, Burks, Ingles, Burke, Lyles (yeah, I know, small sample size)

Last year: Hayward, Exum, Hood, Favors, Hood, Milsap, Evans, Booker, Gobert, Johnson, Burke, Ingles, Burks

Yeah, I hear a lot of people debating whether we can tale a series against the Warriors. (head scratching)

I like Hayward's swagger and the way he went at George defensively and did not back down. It seemed like he was focused on defense.

His offensive poise and decisiveness seem off to me.

I think it is good thread and a valid question, although I am 99% sure Hayward will be fine.

It is a good test to see who steps up and proves that the Jazz have some offensive alternatives.

Just the same as I don't hear alot of people calling Hayward "first option offense" here though, because extolling the virtues of his versatility paints him in a better light vs other upper echelon wings..

Haywards better than this guy right? (just poll Jazzfanz, you'll see) I've seen people post they think Hay's better than Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard too

Is it not a fair question to ask 'how are the Jazz supposed to beat/outscore the Warriors'? They were the best team for the entire season last year, and a conference opponent. Plus - The Jazz strength is defending the rim, and the Warriors shot almost 40% from 3 collectively last year -- I have my doubts a Hayward led Jazz team will ever be able to outscore them.. (are those unreasonable doubts?? - explain pls)

There's gotta be an established hierarchy of best options on offense when you get to the playoffs, If Hayward isn't capable of handling that 1st option offense, It'd be prudent to recognize that ASAP and adjust accordingly..

I think Hayward has struggled hard so far in these three games. The thing I'm most worried about is his body language. He looks frustrated out there and somewhat confused offensively when he tries to score.
He has missed allot of wide open shots that normally go in.
Last night he had zero rebounds.

I figure he will snap out of this funk and play like we know he can. I just hope he does it sooner rather than later.

A 9 per is not very good right?

I think there's plenty of legitimate thinkings that suggest it's a temporary thing
a) father time hindered him to match their competitor's workload and now he needs some extra time to get his rhythm
b) simple bad streak
c) Synder wants to use the early part of the season to see who else can step up and gave Gordon temporarily a smaller role
