Best small towns in Utah to explore?

We used to go out there with girls and video cameras lol to try and catch ghosts on camera. It's pretty creepy. There's another ghost town right by Mercur, it's just up the next canyon. I forget what it's called, but people still live there.

Are they ghosts?

The end finally came in 1951 when the cost of mining exceeded the value of gold. Now after all these years, the town has been scraped to the ground, and nothing remains but a cemetery trail, and a dirt road that goes to the town entrance.

That stinks they ripped all the buildings down because it looks very cool in that old pic. That seems to be the issue with these Utah towns(or lack of Utah towns that still have infrastructure). They were there for some kind of industry, the industrial purpose ends, and then there isn't any reason to hang around there anymore so nobody keeps anything going and they completely get wiped off the map. The best "ghost" towns for exploration purposes are when the population has peaked in the past, dropped to whatever it is in the present, but enough people hang around so that they place doesn't completely evacuate or collapse and most of the buildings remain intact, leaving many areas available for roaming.

There's a really cool ghost town down my Scholfield Reservoir. It's by the mine that has been burning for over a hundred years or something like that.

Ophir is the other town I was talking about my Mercur.

Lol. Read through this whole thread all excited to tell you about Ophir. Then you found out about it yourself... Haha.

Oakley is a cool town. They have an old timey diner there. I also like kamas and heber city.

Morgan is fun as well, then you can drive through east canyon and down emigration canyon right back into slc.

Logan is a really fun place to walk around and read the historical markers on the buildings downtown.

Also, have you been to copperton? That town will surprise you if not. Check out the old Bingham high school. That school was in operation up until like 96. A bunch of my friends went there for middle school, but I just missed the cutoff. It is a crazy place. We used to sneak into the school and mess around.

I heard they tore old Bingham down.

Marysvale. The town itself is really small, but there's a lot of good hiking/ATV trails and some good fishing. Just spent the weekend down there and it was great for re-energizing the battery.
