Boston vs Utah for Hayward

You'd have to do that deal... I think the presence of Gobert won't let us lose enough to get the replacement talent. that is a great deal and would kickstart the process.

I would be devastated though... Rudy is the best and seeing him in a celtics uniform makes me want to puke and cry.

I would feel the exact same way. I can't stand Boston and some significant portion of their fans... It would be horrible to see both Gordon and Rudy there, but I think it might be for the best of all parties.

I'd imagine this is probably the hardest decision of Haywards life. Boston sure can sound alluring, big market easy eastern conference. Boston has proven to be able to get other big FA's ect. But Utah has kind of become his home, add in the best center in the league and a great coach. Just trying to put myself in his shoes makes me feel sick. Honestly I think he stays, but I can't blame him if he leaves.
I think it comes down to what Boston will do with their pick and how they plan to pay the other players on their team and how the salary cap ends up shaking out

Hayward - IT - Horford isn't a better Big 3 than the Clippers have, imo. The lack of rebounding and interior defense with a full cap a year from now has to give him pause.

If I were the Jazz, I wouldn't trade Favors until after Hayward's decision. I think Hayward likes Favors as a person and as a player, and if Favors can get healthy and play well next year, it makes the Jazz a better team than Boston with IT and Horford.

I doubt the Jazz are going to do anything without informing Hayward. Its not like they are going to keep Favors then suddenly trade him once they sign Hayward. I'm sure Hayward is very aware of the situation with Favors and that he is most likely off the team in a year.

I don't think I'd move Favors unless I got a good offer and Hayward was okay with it. Wouldn't move him before the draft either likely after FA opens and teams miss out on primary targets... might have more value that way. We would know what our salary concerns are by then too.

Favs value to another team is likely not high enough to justify rocking the boat.

Please don't kill me for this. It's just a hypothetical and I would like to see what Jazz fans think in case worse comes to worst. So the hypothetical is: Hayward decides to leave for Boston and Hill leaves too...

Would you do the following:
Gobert for Markelle Fultz + BKN 2018 pick + filler(to make salaries match)?

Why for Boston: Gobert covers pretty much all of Boston's major needs - rebounding, interior defense, help/weakside defense to cover for ITs weaknesses defensively. They also get him on a nice contract for 4 years.
Why for Utah: We decide retooling around Gobert will be very hard task with Hayward and Hill gone and decide to jumpstart the rebuilt with two high end assets instead of being not bad enough to get high end picks and not good enough to compete for the next several years until Gobert's contract expires...

Thoughts?

(I guess the larger conversation I'd like to see thoughts about is - if Hayward leaves, do you guys think we should be retooling around Gobert or do you think if we get such an offer we should consider starting from 0 all over again).

Only way I'd consider it is if Joe Johnson and Jaylen Brown are also in the deal. Might as well go all in on both sides of the trade (challenge for title immediately vs. youth movement/tanking). Don't know that Boston would do this, but they should.

But I may not do it anyway. Gobert is someone you can build around. This scenario almost makes me sick to my stomach, though it's intriguing theoretically.

Gordon Hayward once walked into a bar and was immediately disqualified. Moments later, IT walks under the same bar and wins the NBA's limbo competition.
If Hayward wants a better chance, to me, to win an NBA championship, he'll stay in Utah. If he wants to play ball with a potential limbo world champion like IT, he'll go to Boston.
I don't care if you liked this post or not, but I do care you remember in 1996 Mike and Jimmy were disconsolated after watching their favorite team, the Boston Celtics, lose a game in the NBA finals to the Jazz. They then hatched a far-fetched scheme to sabotage Lewis Scott, the star of the Jazz team, who was known for his love of nightlife, by getting him very drunk -- and thus too hungover to perform in the next game. After the two inadvertently kidnaped him instead, they dithered about whether or not to release their captive.
In other words, **** Boston.

Gordon's best move financially is to sign a 1x1 max extension with the Jazz and see if he can make All NBA during the next one or two seasons. He just made his first All Star game and took another step forward in the Playoffs. He could make All NBA next year if things break right for him.

If you were to go in to battle, who would you prefer had your back (to scale)?

Why wouldn't Butler stick to Chicago where he'll eventually be eligible for supermax? If Rondo doesn't go down it'd be Chicago in the ECF right now.

David Locke is saying that the Celtics could trade for Jimmy Butler and still have enough cap room to sign Hayward. I'm not sure if Chicago wants to trade Butler, but that might make a pretty compelling proposition to Hayward.

They would have to gut their entire team to do it. Losing 7-8 players they have that are set to be free agents or have non guaranteed contracts + some bigger contracts like Avery Bradley, Jae Crowder and Jaylen Brown. Not to mention the picks they would lose.

If they get the number 1 pick or any pick and keep it that is good news for Jazz keeping Hayward. A rookie won't increase haywards interest in going to that team. If they trade that pick for someone like Butler or George that might convince Hayward to leave for them.

Good golly you are the dumbest homer poster on here
let's see a rookie isn't going affect Hayward from being a starter and a rookie for Boston like a stud Fultz is great because you get him on a rookie contract so therefore Boston just has more talent and they are playing for 3 years down the road anyways when LeBron retires. They will be playing for chips while Utah plays 7 game first round series against injured teams of they are so lucky. i swear you got no bbal! Iq. Did you grow up following soccer in Mexico or something because your bball is is nill dude

Can't believe the disrespect y'all showing Thomas. He is better then ANY single player the jazz havd. Notice how he lead his team to the conference finals. and people wonder why jazz fans are always considered the worst when it comes to NBA teams.lmao. With or without Hayward y'all are going nowhere. Warriorz, spurs, rockets are all set up better for futures and Denver,Portland and OKC all have pieces that make for a better future. Jazz fans are like the average girl at school who thinks she hot **** and ends up all alone because of her snobby attitude. Y'all might not like it,y'all night even deny it but it's the truth. Do any of you honestly see the Jazz winning a title in the next 10 years?20 years? Only way it happens if Jazz leave Utah and please change the name of your team. Jazz music was probably banned in Utah back in the days when it was starting out

IT's simple. Let Bradley walk and you play Fultz. And IT together. Fultz can guard NBA sgs and this would give Boston. Two excellent ball handlers.it's a no brainer except for low iq jazz fans who think Utah is actually in a position to win. Thank you all for the good laughs in this thread tonight. Can't wait for the responses I'll have by morning that won't counter any point I made tonight

QUOTE=Beantown;1420383]Boston actually has a problem. Their best player/All-Star is a PG, they have Bradley and Smart who are also core guys and wing players. If they don't trade the pick they will have a logjam. They are choosing between two freshman PG's.

I think this would be more appealing if the top pick this year was a big man. Let's say this was a Karl Anthony Town/Anthony Davis type draft. The Celtics could take that type of player and put them right into rotation with Horford and complete their team.[/QUOTE]
